Less Micro, More House

After digesting the microhouse trend this year, things like the mixed poker flat comp. have me interested in the clubbier end of the genre, i guess close to just straight dubby tech-house.

Anyway, so here's what I'm considering picking up. Any comments? (as you can see, I'm restricted to releases on CD)

Maetrik - full-length on Treibstoff
Jake Fairley - full-length on Sender
Todd Edwards - ?
Richard Davis - Safety
D. Diggler - Sounds Fiction
V/A - On and on (sub static comp.)

I've also heard good things about the kanzleramt/k2o. I have the Dennis Desantis full-length which I like a lot, but it seems a little
too 'clean' if you know what I mean. Any other recommendations?

Can I just say that I am really looking forward to hearing from Ronan, Siegbran and Tim on this thread :)

I got some free D. Diggler 12" records the other day 'cause a friend bought 'em off the street from some guy. They've got this mysterious white powder all over 'em. After cleaning, they sound all right.

if you've heard one Todd Edwards remix you've heard them all! despite that its worth checking out a couple of his things for his definitive U.S. garage style with cut up (Mirwais/Madonna eat your heart out) vocals - Edwards almost creates new sentences by reconstructing the vocals - i have no idea what he's been up to the last few years actually but 'Saved My Life', 'Steal My Heart' and his remix of Phoenix (i think it was 'if i ever feel better i'll go the disco') stand out for me...my bruv knows better about him tho so i could ask him for proper recommendations

The Todd Edwards thing to get is Full On, which includes most of his major productions from the past few years. No remixes, unfortunately, but such is life.

Otherwise, Kaito's Special Life pretty much screams what you're talking about. Woozy and Kompakt-y, with big trance leanings and lots of choice piano vamps.

And Cass's Spundae Interpretations double-disc mix is really rich on the meatier end of tech-house dub. Surprisingly shifty and full of ideas.

My favourite CD releases in the genre this year have been Akufen's and the Swayzak double mix album on !K7 called Groovetechnology v1.3

seek out Triple R's Friends mix on Kompakt--might be my fave Kompakt album ever (I like the M. Mayer one a lot but not as much). Dntel's "This Is the Dream (Superpitcher Remix)" is one of my favorite records in the world right now, and the rest is very much in the ballpark of what you want.

Triple R's Friends - would like to hear this as I saw him open for Thomas Brinkmann once. It was a very good set, although I think it confused a lot of the people at the venue (the Empty Bottle - Brinkmann smoked but complained about the bad sound afterward). Is he billed as Triple R on the album? For that show it was RRR. Maybe he doesn't want to be confused with RRRon Lessard.

There is a lot of stuff out there in the vein you are talking about. I have a few crates of records similar to the ones above. a massive post is on its way, but before that comes, let me just put in a vote for Maetrik's "Entering the Cycle" EP on Immigrant. In fact, Immigrant is a good label to check out in general. You may also like Plastic City from Germany (check out "Jigsaw Pieces" by the Timewriter for after-hours dubby deep tech-house), and also a lot of records from New York, labels like: Intrinsic Design, Driftwood, Fiji and Macintosh. Some of the earlier Svek records are good in this context as well. Names to look out for include Alexi Delano, Casey Hogan, Jesper Dahlback, G. Pal, Hakan Lidbo...
I have a few discs on Raum from Dirk Diggler and like them all, especially "Microcrystal"...

Is he German? I assumed so because of his severe, Teutonic looks and shaved pate. At least, I think that's the same guy.

John I am backlogged right now with other mixes I must make, so it might be a while. also, tape is the only medium available to me right now.

thanks for all the suggestions. i already have the kaito album, and now i'm definitely going to search out rrr along with some of the other recommendations.

but what i really wanted to know was whether the albums i had listed were worth spending money on...

all i've heard of g-pal (and i want to hear more) was 'life' (the track), which i thought was incredible.
