Cows

Cows, one of the the better rock bands of last century. I'm surprised there's no thread for them. What I really want to ask is, anyone heard the Heroin Sheiks? That name is SOOO lame I can't bring myself to make it a thread title, and so my hopes aren't high for their music. But what do they sound like, especially, are they good live? Of if you can't answer that, what Cows albums do you still play? I think Cunning Stunts pretty great.

PERSI TO THREAD! Oh, wait...

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 8 January 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The easiest question to answer is what Cows records do I not play. None. All of there albums have their moments. The songs Chow,Hitting the Wall, and (everyones favorite)Sexy Pee Story, get lots of play by me. Most fun to see live-Big mistake: I missed seeing them open for Primus in a 10 thousand seat auditorium that was sold out!! Never have so many frat and soroity kids been so musicly abused at the same time...

I've got a CD with Peacetika and Daddy's got a Tail (??) that I play sometimes, like "The Man" & "Hitting the Wall". I was a big fan of Whorn but forgot to tape it when leaving college radio station, yeah, they are top. Wish I'd seen them live.

GREAT GREAT GREAT!!! Live, the cows could not be beat!! Nudity, sex dolls, trumpets and more nudity! Saw them play CBGB's a very long time ago, they left a very lasting impression...the records are pretty good too! Sexy Pee Story is sweetness!

Yes! Sexy Pee Story!

Now can anyone say something about the Heroin Sheiks?

They play like evey other day in Brooklyn/NYC, but I have yet to see them! The have the recipe for greatness, but who knows.

What's in the recipe? Just "ex-cows"? Obviously HAVING A GOOD BAND NAME can't be part of the recipe.

I think a dood from the Swans might be in there too, but 8/10's of all bands going have a former Swans member, oh and I think their name sucks!

two months pass...
Great band! Peacetika, Sexy Pee Story, and CUnning Stunts are thei high watermarks, IMHO. And yes - astounding to witness in a smoky club on a hot night. Bass player now with the Melvins, who are also quite alright, and Tomahawk, whom I have not heard yet.

I had one chance to see the Cows (SF), but GG Allin was 'playing' on the same night, so...(first words from GG onstage - "anyone who went to see the Cows instead of coming here is a faggot")

What a great band. They need a poll.

Agree about the greatness of Cows, but isn't there another thread out there somewhere? I know they've been discussed in more depth than this.

You'd think so, but...I couldn't find one.

asey, Thursday, 29 May 2008 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 29 May 2008 12:04 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, no, all the ones I want are too expensive. Now I remember...

RabiesAngentleman, Thursday, 29 May 2008 12:16 (eighteen years ago)

ILM is all about threads for bands I listened to in 1999... cows, bedhead, hose got cable...

pgwp, Thursday, 29 May 2008 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Well, where does a discriminating person turn when Pitchfork is still writing about Dan fucking Deacon? What do you expect? I'm about one Grizzly Bear review from diving headfirst back into the Gravity Records discography, I swear. If I do, I WILL start a thread...
