Same (very good) pop song - who did it bestest?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 January 2003 11:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Billie. The others are RUB! Especially Pure and Simple.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 January 2003 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Never Ever. Just. Didn't like the Billie tune. How weird is her relationship w/ Chris Evans?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:03 (twenty-three years ago)

why's it weird nick? i find it quite heart-warming.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

He forcefeeds her liqorice bootlaces and ties ribbons to her feet. That's not heartwarming!

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i wasn't aware of that, N.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Honey to the B, OBV!

Sarah (starry), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

He probably doesn't actually do that.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:13 (twenty-three years ago)

you're "probably" right.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I just got All Saints All Hits - they were very average weren't they? The covers are the best tracks. Is Shaznay still working?

Billie wins.

Jeff W, Friday, 10 January 2003 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't say it was weird, I just asked how weird, one answer to which could be 'not at all weird'. Aye, I see it as kind of heart-warming too, actually. They've both given up stardom and work and everything so they can drink and fuck and get fat together.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Honey to the BOBV hahahahha.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

"The Facts of Life" by Black Box Recorder, obviously.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

but honey to the bee sounds like spiritualized.

all these records are poor, pure and simple is the best. these records sound like a tub of emulsion slowly draining out of onto the floor.

now, when it comes to billie, girlfriend is easily the best song

gareth (gareth), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:52 (twenty-three years ago)

i think those weird ratbags atomic kitten are better in this vein(whole again, and, to a certain extent, the tide is high). its a thinner sound, more like balsa wood, and those tinny beats, and slightly too fastness, stop them from the perils of gloop

gareth (gareth), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth is wrong - billie's best is 'day & night'.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

and "weird ratbags" is another thinly disguised scouse diss, isn't it? ;)

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no! amazingly not, this time! although, yes, they are scouse too, you are right.

but 'ratbags' seems to have been created specifically to describe Atomic Kitten. never has a word been more apt

gareth (gareth), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

popbitch calls 'em (well, liz specifically) "pram faced" meaning they look like they should be pushing a pram round an estate. this is what i like about them.

michael wells (michael w.), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Mel C was apparently known as "Pram Spice" at Virgin Records.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Of all the people Billie has been compared to over the course of her short but glorious career, I bet Spiritualized was not among them. Congratulations, Gareth.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 10 January 2003 13:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh. So conflicted. Never Ever and Honey To The Bee clearly two of the best pop singles of the late 90s... both clearly ripped off the same template and DO NOT appropriate Oasis's "All Around The World", so both are clearly better than Pure And Simple.

Billie, I suppose, wins because of the absence of the embarrassing bit about the alphabet.

edward o (edwardo), Friday, 10 January 2003 14:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I guess choose Billie.

The new Appleton single sounds just like an oasis song.
