That's what some people told me. I haven't yet bought the album, because I would like to know what you guys think. Is Faint as good as they say? Or these people are overexcited?

Wasn't it released over a year ago over in the States. Saw their picture in the Sunday Times Magazine, ah how ridicuous they look. I've never heard the full album though a friend received a proo copy recently. The future of new wave.. urm. no? Does it matter?

I was about to say, I thought a new one was due soon. I like it and them, but Chaki has violently differing opinions...

They do a wonderfully faithful version of Enola Gay live that will put you in a time warp or worm hole or something. Complete with strobes and smoke machines. Their use of 8o's appropriate synths and sounds is on the money and quite clever, but their original songs are nowhere near as catchy as the real stuff. You would be better off buying a best-of OMD or early Depeche Mode or perhaps that DMX Krew album from a couple years back. That guy had the songs to match the retro sounds.

This has been out for awhile over here, and I must say, besides an interesting light show, and innovative haircuts, The Faint really isn't anything special. The album is fun to listen to, and quite entertaining, but they are nothing other than a slighty better Ultravox.

I remember when The Faint was an emo band from Omaha, staring Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes (Yuck there). Sweet lord was I suprised when I saw them, and they had turned into a new wave band.

I think if you want to get into new wave of now, there are a lot better things to listen to than The Faint, especially with american groups, when you take into consideration the electroclash hype in NYC right now.

The Faint vs Ladytron FITE!

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 13 January 2003 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

The Faint really can do one sound, and that's basically an amped-up version of Soft Cell's "Sex Dwarf". My favorite Faint track is "Worked Up So Sexual" off of Blank-Wave Arcade. Danse Macabre certainly is entertaining however, even if they always bring to mind Al Pacino's dancing in the movie "Cruising."

Ladytron's whispery vocals are nowhere as fun as Faint's overwraught ones, so I'll definitely pick the Nebraska boys.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 13 January 2003 00:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Secondly Ladytron is a bore live, and with The Faint's keyboardist only actually having to play on a few tracks, he turns into a dance storm of unexplainable frenzy. Also exciting, see hundreds of hipsters delodging the objects that have been probed into their asses and dancing.

Oh, and breif note. I don't know how easy this is to find where you are, but The Faints remix album of Blank-Wave Arcade is by the far their greatest release.

Classic or Dud?

four months pass...
Found a copy of Danse Macabre Remixis here at work on the discard pile and am currently giving it a spin. Finding myself quite digging the "Thin White Duke Mix" of "The Conductor," for whatever that's woith.

The remix record is the best Faint-related release since Blank-Wave Arcade (which is tremendous). Nearly every remix betters the original. I like the Calculators remix a lot.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm now on track 5 ("Total Job".."Photek mix") and am quite lovin' it.

they suck

chaki (chaki), Friday, 23 May 2003 07:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I had a bit of a nauseous reaction to the vocals on first listen, but the rest sounded great. If there are more hooks, I'll be into it.

that Danse Macabre Remixes album was in a listening station in a local record store i was in a couple of weeks ago, and i gave it a listen. i still haven't listened to much proper Faint stuff, but the remixes thing was kinda interesting. may pick it up sometime, which may in turn force me to listen to the proper album purely for comparative purposes.

janni (janni), Friday, 23 May 2003 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

They are fun live, except when the lead singer comes out for the first encore by himself and does an over earnest spotlight song by himself. They do much better with the dance numbers.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 23 May 2003 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw that remixes album the other day and was intrigued...I therefore will keep an eye out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 23 May 2003 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

nine years pass...

So, um, deluxe edition and tour, then.
