I'm putting together a C60 mixtape for listening to in the morning while I'm still half asleep.

Now if Side A looked like this...

Melf : Little Grey Cat
Curd Duca : Gunshot
Brian Eno : The Lost Day
Curd Duca : Quiet Nights Intro / Quiet Nights
Boards of Canada : Diving Station
Aphex Twin : SAWII 2.10
Curd Duca : Tristan
Rapoon : Jerewat

...then what would belong on Side B?

Who's Curd Duca?

He did some ambient records for Mille Plateaux. The Duca tracks are intermissions, each only one minute long or so. They have a bit of ethereal singing in it, always good in the morning.

Who's Jerry Butler?

;-)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 13 January 2003 02:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Spectrum - "True Love Will Find You In The End"

followed by

Eminem - "Cleaning Out My Closet" (Jacknife Lee remix)

the warm duvet followed by the cold shower...

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 13 January 2003 02:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, that's it ! 'I'm Only Sleeping' was so obvious I didn't even think of it. (If that makes any sense.)

If Side B would begin with Tool's 'Cesaro Summability' and end with 'I'm Only Sleeping'... or begin with 'I'm Only Sleeping' and end with 'Super 16' by Neu... Vincent Gallo would fit in next to the Beatles, I guess. Um.

jot eff pe, Monday, 13 January 2003 02:42 (twenty-three years ago)

spectrum 'go to sleep' or 'waves wash over me'

keith (keithmcl), Monday, 13 January 2003 04:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Vladislav Delay is great for that early morning / still half-asleep feeling.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 13 January 2003 06:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Flying Saucer Attack, "Further," side two.

Douglas Mosurak (mosurock), Monday, 13 January 2003 06:20 (twenty-three years ago)

these'd probably suit more the, mmm ...holiday mornings, say, when you've mistakenly set the alarm too early and then notice, with relief, that you can again actually -

"Go To Sleep"
by Summer At Shatter Creek
(the Absolutely Kosher sampler states the alb's out January 03, i dunno if that's already happened)

also 'good', i imagine, for the morning after -
"Three Nights Drunk",
"I Never Will Marry"
"What'll We Do With The BAby-O" -- from Kristin Hersh's Murder, Misery and Then Goodnight

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 13 January 2003 09:50 (twenty-three years ago)

obselon minos - global communication
autumn leaves (irresistable force remix) - coldcut
whoblo - bola
good night - the beatles

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 13 January 2003 09:55 (twenty-three years ago)

... and THEN mix into The Beatles's "Good Night"'s orchestral fade-out Ekkehard Ehler's "plays John Cassavetes" (the track that's no.6 on the CD) -- and then you'll have yourself a whole bunch of weirdly-new-yet-old-borrowed-and-vividly-blue dreams to boot!

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 13 January 2003 10:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Oooh, I just thought of another great one....

Tanker by Bailter Space.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Monday, 13 January 2003 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Side B:
Paul Schütze - Sleep I / Sleep II / Sleep III

- already in sequence on Disc 2 of 'Apart.' just hit PLAY/REC...

summerslastsound (summerslastsound), Monday, 13 January 2003 14:29 (twenty-three years ago)

"(All I Have To Do Is) Dream" - pick yer vers'hn, there're hundreds

oops... "Day Sleeper" - actually a couple of different songs, titled thus, exist beside the (best known? and most recent??) one by the 'three-legged-dog'-band

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Monday, 13 January 2003 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd go for 'Long Long Long' rather than 'I'm only sleeping' if you want a Beatles tune - much more soporific.

Eno's perfect. As well as 'The Lost Day' maybe something from 'Plateaux of Mirrors' with Harold Budd. Or anything from side 2 of 'Before and After Science' eg 'Julie With'.

James Ball (James Ball), Monday, 13 January 2003 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

"When You Sleep"! Great song.

Orange, Monday, 13 January 2003 15:23 (twenty-three years ago)

well anything off grinning cat by sosuma yokota would fit in well...

robin (robin), Monday, 13 January 2003 19:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, the Smiths' Asleep, not just because the title but because it really is sleepy sounding and pretty. Also Black Flag's Black Coffee but skrewed really really slowwwwww.

Paula G., Monday, 13 January 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)
