Pete Townshend?

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 13 January 2003 15:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, they were great, especially the first album!

anyone else?

a banana (alanbanana), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

They were alright. I much preferred D.I.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:22 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was fourteen, I had a girlfriend who liked the Adolescents.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 14 May 2005 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

The demos disc that just came out is fun enough.

shining like national dog shit (Neanderthal), Friday, 12 August 2011 02:11 (fourteen years ago)

That it is.

"kids of the black hole" and still love it today. Rik Goth Agnew's anthemic guitar. The rest is a bit second division at best.

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Friday, 12 August 2011 19:06 (fourteen years ago)

I should maybe revisit the debut ? Just cannot recall anything that matches the above but it was 57 years ago and things change

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Friday, 12 August 2011 19:08 (fourteen years ago)

Been talking to Rikk lately about an interview project which I need to finally sit down with him here. Should be good fun. The whole album is a treat but yeah, "Kids" is a hell of a standout.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 12 August 2011 19:13 (fourteen years ago)

Was just blasting "Amoeba."

Pete Scholtes, Friday, 12 August 2011 19:28 (fourteen years ago)

An awesome song to blast.

curmudgeon, Friday, 12 August 2011 19:43 (fourteen years ago)

All By Myself by Rik (plus K?) was OK too. I have it somewhere. No honest, I play it every morning

Jessie Fer Ark (Mobbed Up Ping Pong Psychos), Friday, 12 August 2011 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

lotsa great tracks on that debut - "Who Is Who", "I Hate Children", "Word Attack", hell the whole thing rocks.

one year passes...

Wow that debut album is a f-in burner. I missed this record somehow.

"Kids of the Black Hole" is an amazing punk rock song. Best thing I can compare it to is Wipers' "Youth of America" how it just builds and builds and builds in intensity.

earlnash, Friday, 1 February 2013 04:20 (thirteen years ago)

yes!

curmudgeon, Friday, 1 February 2013 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

indeed!

Wrecking Crew is another great song not mentioned yet.

They're still fun to see live despite the total inappropriateness of their band name.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Friday, 1 February 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

two years pass...

Somehow missed seeing them live back in the day (did they ever even come to DC?) but saw current version of group last night--"Amoeba," "Kids of the Black Hole," and others sounded great. Remiaining original members I think per wiki and a tweet I saw-- Tony Cadena - Vocals (1980–1981, 1986–1987, 2001–present)
Steve Soto - Bass (1980–1981, 1986–1989, 2001–present), Vocals (1988–1989), Guitar (2007 and 2008 European tours)

The Weirdos opened and they were good too.

curmudgeon, Monday, 29 June 2015 14:33 (ten years ago)

so pissed that I am missing that double bill in July, I have a festival commitment :(

sleeve, Monday, 29 June 2015 14:39 (ten years ago)

The club was pretty empty--75 people maybe. But that didn't seem to hurt the performances.

two years pass...

Ah man. Word circulated last night and has been confirmed by the band and Frontier Records that Steve Soto passed on yesterday, apparently quite suddenly. Only 53. Never mentioned it upthread but I interviewed him when his band Joyride put out a great little album in the mid-90s, Another Month of Mondays, and I just remember him being very friendly, engaging and just plain fun to chat with. RIP to him indeed.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:01 (seven years ago)

eleven months pass...

The Adolescents are playing Hastings tonight and I was surprised to see they've done 5 albums since 2011. Are any them any good?
