Don't pick a box set/compilation, but a full album please! Or Abba was "just" a "singles band" (no concept albums)???

I really dig Waterloo, which has a few hits and maybe their best album track -- "Suzy-Hang-Around."

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 17:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Best one is undoubtedly their final, The Visitors, with 'The Album' coming a close second, 'Arrival' third.

Avoid Voulez Vous, though!

russ t is otm

Personally, I'm not too hot about Super Trouper either.

Definitely The Visitors. Title track is classic paranoia.

Has anyone here ever seen ABBA live? Would having seen them on the "Voulez Vous" tour earn you ILM cool points?

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Another vote for 'The Album'. If you're the type of sick fuck who likes Bobby Conn, Laibach, Alice Cooper, Queen and late-period Marianne Faithfull for all the wrong reasons, like me, then this is the one for you!

Super Trouper and The Visitors.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'arrival' all the way.
'dum dum diddle' and 'that's me'
and 'tiger' and 'my love my life'.
classic-o. oh and something called
'dancing queen' is on there.
the treatment of the packaging of the
back catalogue is appaling;
the re-releases not even having the pictures
from the original inner sleeves.
truly they're an outrage.
we're not asking for much, just can
you the record company people
please treat the swedish legends
with a morsel of the same respect as that reserved for
the scousers. them being britain's second most
loved band *ever* after the fabs and all.
mini-rant over.

Paul R (paul R), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Abba nicked the helicopter cover design for 'Arrival'off the early 70's UK harmony group called 'Arrival'(nice LP also),bit of useless info.

Paul R (paul R), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm with "arrival", too

The Visitors: BONUS TRACKS

10. Should I Laugh Or Cry (Intro Version)
11. No hay a quien culpar (Spanish Version of When All Is Said And Done)
12. Se me està escapando (Spanish Version of Slipping Through My Fingers)
13. The Day Before You Came
14. Cassandra
15. Under Attack
16. You Owe Me One

...

perhaps "You Owe Me One" is the other finished "Opus 10" track, with "I Am The City"

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 12 October 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

five years pass...

Old U.S. vinyl pressing of Waterloo album is very different sounding! Very hot mastering, I guess. Same tracks on vinyl pressing of Greatest Hits album from only two years later sound much softer (though richer, too).

So different sounding that I thought it might be a different mix at first. Anyone know the story?

timellison, Tuesday, 22 March 2011 02:29 (fifteen years ago)

I'm a little conflicted about it! Used to hearing more definition in Abba, but "Waterloo" is so much hotter on this record.
