wondering whether or not to (a) see them live in Feb and (b) get their new album on Merge

they were fun live when they came to town for their last album. Weren't afraid to plunder Singles Going Steady like we wanted them to. The new stuff wasn't bad, though Diggle made the drummer play some electronic beats for some reasons.

Always worth seeing live, regardless. New album? Well, more of a crap shoot, really....but each album since the ALIVE TONIGHT 'reunion' e.p. and TRADE TEST TRANSMISSION has had something to recommend it. Go for it. How bad could it be?

Classic story of their appearance on WFMU five or six years ago--supposedly they showed up to the studio and said "How long can we play?" Long as you like, the DJ said. "No: I mean how long _can_ we play?" Well, the DJ said, the DAT we're recording your session on is two hours long. So they played for two hours--pretty much all of _Singles Going Steady_, _Spiral Scratch_, etc. They just really like playing that stuff.

I'm planning on getting in touch with Merge this week to hit them up for some advance copies of their new releases, essentially begging for the Clean anthology and the Buzzcocks. If I get it in soon, I'll let you know.

three years pass...
I SAW THEM LIVE LAST NIGHT AND THEY WERE FANTASTIC

This coming from someone who wouldn't really consider himself a fan.
