Where You Hear It

Context as a listener, how much does it matter when you first hear something?
Like maybe your a-hole older brother was always going on about how great Otis Redding is, so now when you hear it, all you hear is that braying jackass of a deadbeat and you feel a slight sting in your charley horse?

Or maybe your sweet old mom loves the Beatles, and you grew up with that playing alongside Mother Goose or whatever, so now, Sgt. Pepper's is little more than kidfare.

My parents listened to crooners like Dean Martin and Nat King Cole and broadway musicals, so now I associate all of that with old people.

Sgt. Pepper's really is little more than kidfare.

the way i feel the first time i hear something is probably only representative of what i end up feeling about it in general maybe half the time...usually i change my mind for some reason or another...but i always remember the first time. it just leaves an impression.
