Also, are there any other bands I should be wary of mentioning?
Thanks!

radiohead are neither very cool or very uncool. mention them at will.
the coolest band of all is the scots of del amitri, and the girlies swoon for toploader

I am an unrepentant Travis lover. I make no apologies. Travis are the pot noodle of music, they sound a little bit like other bands, like pot noodle is flavoured a little bit like other foods, but when you're feeling unhappy they cheer you up like nothing else. They comfort me.
And they are dead lovely, dead nice, dead charming folk as well. I will hear no bad things said about Travis.
Your taste in music will change as you learn to live in the UK, because things that you loved for anglophile value will no longer have the same appeal when you learn that yes, England can be a bit rubbish, too. If you're lucky, you'll meet the idiots that generate the trends and the arbiters of cool, realise how random and silly it is, and learn to love things for your own worth.
But don't feel bad about liking Travis. I've revived our Travis cover for the solo gig on Tuesday. With jungle drumbreaks and everything.

I've yet to seek comfort in a pot noodle. It sounds like quite the experience.

I have no opinions on Travis whatsoever.

i ride for at least half a dozen travis songs. 'funny thing' from the first album and 'coming around' are both really great songs.
