You know, with wah-wahs and lots of bass and maybe some "Disco Inferno" strings and stuff. Or vaguely electro-ish stuff. Or something that sounds kind of like Daft Punk. I'm thinking maybe along the lines of Rainbow Brothers' "818 323 01" or something.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 19 January 2003 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Underground Resistance-Transition

Archigram-Carnival

Bangalter and Falcon-Together

Space Cowboy-Just Put Your Hand In Mine

Phoenix-If I Ever Feel Better (Buffalo Bunch Remix)

Agent Sumo-24 Hours (urgent and key since it seems to fit your request perfectly)

Finally if you want to go very french and very discoey but also a bit tougher but still downright amazing then try Cassius-La Mouche (DJ Falcon remix). I had to include that cos it's my favourite song ever.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 19 January 2003 23:20 (twenty-three years ago)

The last Cassius album (Au Reve) fits that description somewhat closely

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Sunday, 19 January 2003 23:23 (twenty-three years ago)

If you like those and need another 50 or so recommendations then don't hesitate to ask. Erm I just realised I like a massive amount of stuff that sounds like Daft Punk.

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 19 January 2003 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan go on can you do huge french house recommendations?

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Sunday, 19 January 2003 23:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I'm going to bed now but I'll do a list tomorrow.

What about Cajmere and Dj Sneak? French house comes from Chicago, doesn't it?

Best french/american house track: "Rockshock" by Roy Davis Junior and Thomas Bangalter. Basically, the entire Roulé Catalogue will satisfy your query, Nate. It's way better than the two Cassius lps. I hate to succumb to the "it was so much better before the albums" syndrom, but Cassius were really marvellous when they (I mean, mainly Zdar) remixed Norman Jean Bell or Daft Punk's Around the world, or sampled Prince. They had that dirty-but-clear sound and vicious beats, and everything that made them so great suddenly disappeared - or at least it got more soft and mainstream-radio-friendly, I mean "Feeling For You" was on NRJ and Fun Radio all the time in France - when they did "Cassius".

Btw, the Motorbass album, "Pansoul", is a masterpiece, one of the only true house albums, maybe because it's not plain house at all.

Etienne Menu (Etienne), Monday, 20 January 2003 10:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't think Au Reve was great either to be honest. Never bought 1999. I'll do that list when I get into college.

madkatt courtship III - kosmik pop & my life muzik

yeah! that album is great no? better than the disappointing kittenz and thee glitx anyway

gareth (gareth), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

why do you think its better? i like Kittenz a lot

stevem (blueski), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i dont know. i was all primed to be all over kittenz and thee glitz, and the cover was all that too but i dont know. as for electrikboy well i said this like a couple years ago...

gareth (gareth), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

i only have the double 12" promo of that album. however, as it includes my life muzik, where's your past?, my fellow boppers, kosmik pop and welcome to club strobe i didn't think i needed the album proper. those tracks are excellent, though, and better than anything i've heard from kittenz.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

'silver screen..' has dominion over all i tells ya...is there anything like it on madkatt coursthip? was it just a remake of one of his earlier tracks? if so what?

Crystal Waters-Come on Down

Beach Boys-Here Comes the Night(10minutes of Disco Heaven from '79)

Paul R (paul R), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

The Beach Boys did a disco song? Holy shit.

That TC 1992 "Funky Guitar" recommendation solves a big mystery for me, as my local college radio station had been using it for background music for an ad spot and I had no idea who it was. Excellent stuff.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Monday, 20 January 2003 17:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I'm going to bed now but I'll do a list tomorrow.
Five euros that Ronan will include CJ Bolland. ;-)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 20 January 2003 18:31 (twenty-three years ago)

"Funky Guitar" rocks serious booty.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 20 January 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

To reiterate, re the Beach Boys' "Here Comes the Night" : HOLY SHIT. This is simultaneously one of the weirdest and most perfect things I've heard in a while. It's scary how well their voices work over disco; they're like some Bizarro Bee Gees or something.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Monday, 20 January 2003 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's THE GREATEST disco track EVER!

Paul R (paul R), Monday, 20 January 2003 20:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey ! That was Micheal Wells out of GTO up there, seems he's not around anymore. Hello Michael Wells out of GTO !

blunt (blunt), Tuesday, 4 October 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

This thread is strangely missing a lot of the more generic but often excellent post-"U Don't Know Me" stuff.

My boyfriend's favourite of this sort of thing is I think Grant Nelson's "Step 2 Me (Disco Mix)", mainly for its "Step to the left! Step to the right! Mama's gonna bring you home tonight!" diva chorus.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

Oh right, this thread. Well for one, there are only a couple measly mentions of DJ Sneak up there, when the man made a healthy living out of disco house for a number of years. About a quarter of his production (either very early or late) is electroid chi-house but everything in between is both what was cool, then what rapidly sucked about "funky disco house" : Le Filtered Loops.

blunt (blunt), Wednesday, 5 October 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Grow! Records (Hi-Lo in Vienna) and Studio 54 (DJ Dole & Kom) from Germany were pretty good. John Acquaviva did good tunes as well and there are more on the Definitive label. Back to Chicago with Paul Jonhson, Gene Farris & MFON of course, more technoey, DJ Q from Glasgow... lots more.

Deeper disco house is still pretty much alive. Of course Moodymann has made a living off of Chic samples etc. and does warmly updated deeper funky disco house.

So do any
of his by now many
imitators.
