The label behind Bear, Montgolfier Brothers and Lazerboy that was legendarily funded by well-placed horse-racing bets.

I'm going to plump for a single track, Cavil's , from the album but could happily have chosen the Lazerboy/Quigley split 10-inch as the label's perfect artifact.

You?

That should have read:

I'm going to plump for a single track, Cavil's Meet Me At Strumble Head, from the album An Evening In The Company Of The Vespertine, but could have happily chosen the Lazerboy/Quigley split 10-inch Spring Will Be A Little Late This Year as the label's perfect artifact.

You?

tricky one... the montgolfier brothers "seventeen stars" album (later re-released by mcgee's poptones label) is still one of the most perfect slabs of post-felt intelligent pop - music by philip glass/john barry/vini reilly, words by a strange hybrid of jake thackray, mark kozelek and morrissey. still go back to quigley's solo material, though, and my pick would be "returning to the scene of the crme" from the final vespertine release, 'murder'...

what about the pre-vespertine 'a kind of loving' ep (croissant neuf label?) - that's still the winner around here... especially the opening track (big, strong arms) and (somewhat hidden) closing track which has mr quigley quietly crooning over some orchestral backdrop...

'The Truth's Out Darling' is a good call, Arne.

You two should collaborate, yes?

On vespertine, I will definetely pick "Benny Hill's Wardrobe", by the Bitter Springs. GNAC borders on muzaq at times.
