Female artist on Carpark releases her debut Black Cabaret tomorrow (Feb 18), which press release describes as combo of Cabaret Voltaire, Madonna, Aphex Twin, and Prince. What's up with this?

dleone (dleone), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno but I saw it on a few sites that seemed to think it was worthwhile or at least were selling it as such. I was piqued but then I saw the YMO reissues.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 17 February 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

None of those comparisons are accurate, though there's a sample of "Material Girl" in there somewhere. It's a good, mooody synth-pop record (especially for the winding, less vocal-based tracks). The keyboards on the first song remind me of Associates' "The Associate".

two years pass...
she has her own label now.

First single sounds absolutely delicious - http://www.wordandsound.net/article/38868

Super, super busy, dare I say 'funky'? Chile be running things!

Merry Christmas (fandango), Thursday, 22 December 2005 02:34 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, been waiting for it awhile, it was the opening cut on Tobi Neumann's "Pass Your Bedtime" at the beginning of the year.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 22 December 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

heh. more companies should just let you stream the little samples flowing together like that. I just tried the ones on juno out for size, and the effect isn't anything like as rushy cueing each one up with a little break inbetween.

Merry Christmas (fandango), Thursday, 22 December 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

We seem to be on a lot of the same threads these days, eh Fandango?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 22 December 2005 03:56 (twenty years ago)

indeed! what can it mean?

Merry Christmas (fandango), Thursday, 22 December 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

six months pass...
Fuck. Juno doesn't have this in stock anymore, about to make an order, may as well make it two! I can't find it to download either (Not on Beatport, Kompakt, Wordandsound or Bleep) I even asked in Leila-M & Hard Wax when I was in Berlin :(

However... her new new record sounds just as nice as the last, and even more varied! - http://www.juno.co.uk/products/226972-01.htm

Is she was working on an album? :/ There's something really compact & instantly appealing about a lot of her tracks which seems suited to all formats and not just for DJ use.

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 20 July 2006 08:16 (nineteen years ago)

oh, while this threads bumped "Black Cabaret" wasn't her debut (album) actually... it was this - http://www.discogs.com/release/97283

i love that mix. her new album is brilliant too.

braveclub, Monday, 28 July 2008 08:54 (seventeen years ago)

Blimey, didn't know there was an album. I love her RA mix from earlier this year.

Matt DC, Monday, 28 July 2008 09:14 (seventeen years ago)

also, dinky has made her mix cd on crosstown rebels from the end of last year available for free download. right when it was released, the distributor went under and her mix never saw the light of day

ah ha.
i was looking for that .. now the story reaches its natural conclusion.
ta for the pointer - getting it now.

mark e, Monday, 28 July 2008 12:11 (seventeen years ago)

the get lost mix never got released?! wow, it's a storming mix. glad it's seeing the light of day...

lex pretend, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

and yeah it's the moment when she drops 'bell clap dance' which totally makes it - also the closing stages ('souffle', 'toyah' etc) are superb

lex pretend, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:41 (seventeen years ago)

the mp3s are 320s as well. bonus points.

mark e, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:42 (seventeen years ago)

"17. Paulo Olarte – Solu Tu (Isolee Remix)"

is my favourite part of that mix. such a beautiful song

r1o natsume, Monday, 28 July 2008 15:48 (seventeen years ago)

this Dinky album is a very early leak then? internet is pretty short on details right now...

fandango, Monday, 28 July 2008 18:47 (seventeen years ago)

The Get Lost mix is not only amazing, but another example of why the minimal into deep house fusionism 2007 was so much more interesting than the deep house into deep house consolidation of 2008.

Chic Miniature's "Kimono" = totally loveable.

Tim F, Thursday, 23 October 2008 07:59 (seventeen years ago)

three weeks pass...

I'm really not that fussed about the LP :(

fandango, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah only a few really good tracks on it. I wonder if she went a bit more dour so as to fit in with the Vakant aesthetic. I prefer to think of her 2007 double EP as her "proper" LP.

Tim F, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 23:07 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.discogs.com/release/217785

The Dinky remix on the Chica and the Folder - Schatulle 12" is pretty great. That whole 12" is great actually.

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 19 November 2008 23:28 (seventeen years ago)

the album on Traum is fucking excellent as well... as is that Traum comp of South American techno.. way more on the ambient-ish side of things, though

winston, Thursday, 20 November 2008 05:12 (seventeen years ago)

ack I've been after that album for years, what's the comp called?

fandango, Thursday, 20 November 2008 10:54 (seventeen years ago)

i really love the album, it's full of awesome wonky details which make you feel a bit discombobulated. sounds incredible really loud. 'burdelia' is especially great.

lex pretend, Thursday, 20 November 2008 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

I am bored of dour by this point, I was hoping it would be the bouncier end of minimal like her Resident Advisor mix.

Chopper Aristotle (Matt DC), Thursday, 20 November 2008 11:55 (seventeen years ago)

it is bouncy! i didn't find it particularly dour

lex pretend, Thursday, 20 November 2008 12:00 (seventeen years ago)

it put me slightly in mind of a circus, inexplicably

lex pretend, Thursday, 20 November 2008 12:01 (seventeen years ago)

To be fair I listened once - it seemed to switch between bouncy and dour about equally.

Tim F, Thursday, 20 November 2008 12:09 (seventeen years ago)

burdelia is good. the rest, not so fussed about (so not fussed i passed over a 2x12" promo for 3 euros over the weekend)

resolved, Thursday, 20 November 2008 13:19 (seventeen years ago)

eleven months pass...

Anyone heard the new album?
