Nelly & Justin 'Work It'
- not impressed myself, and its funny that title crops up twice in 6 months huh...hot video tho

Missy Elliott ft Ludacris 'Gossip Folks'
i still havent heard 'Under Construction' (fooooolish) but this is another grower - love the Ludacris spot, and Missy is as amazing as ever - note the video this time includes a graffiti tribute to Jam Master Jay as well as Aaliyah and Lisa Left Eye

Jameson 'True'
a marvellous convergence of 'Papa Don't Preach', 187 Lockdown and a sweeter, more innocent Peaches? floating around late last year but one of the best singles i've heard THIS year for sure

Peter Gabriel 'My Head Sounds Like This (Royksopp mix)'
Royksopp do it again - dense shuffling beats, warped sub bass - the most menacing thing they've done (not saying much i guess, but this goes a lot darker than their remix of Felix for example) and you dont hear Pete's correct voice until well over halfway through during a pleasingly offset oasis of tranquiltiy sequence amid the chaotic squeaks and bletches

and add to the list Liberty X vs Richard X with 'Being Nobody' - yep he's put 'Being Boiled' under another piss poor Liberty X cover of a song already done to slow and painful death...but in reality its better than any other cover of 'Aint Nobody' thus far thanks to Richard X's excellent re-twiddling of the old Human League bassline and plenty of nice quirky blips and bloops....video also wry and stylish and nicely done all round

blueski, i started a thread on 'being nobody' and got one reply, unrelated to the song. if you get people to talk about it i'll be really hurt.

(it's titled 'mainstream booty' and is way, way down the page somwhere)

missed that one completely sorry michael - well the track is a grower i guess. it will be funny if Richard X becomes this great 'saviour of pop' for giving all kinds of pop bands an achingly trendy (oh wait, its last year's fad innit) bootleg makeover.

I like anything I've heard by Jamieson, Selectah is very good too, especially if you can find the instrumental.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 February 2003 01:01 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll pull it back to the top of new answers, blueski, where it can be ignored all over again.

I like the D12 Vs Human League bootleg alot, fwiw. (very little)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 February 2003 01:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the different parts of the Missy video, but I don't quite get what they have to do with each other. Despite finding So Addictive to be So Redundant I'm really curious about Under Construction. Matos's CD project allowed me to hear the skit after Work It and I thought it was pretty fun.

Uh, there's one of those? Purple Pills vs DM's "Just Can't Get Enough" I've heard, but ver League? Details please...

Anybody done that "Cleaning Out My Closet" vs Denim's "It Fell Off The Back Of A Lorry" for me yet? C'mon now, I'm DJing on Sat & neeeed it...;-)

Charlie (Charlie), Thursday, 20 February 2003 02:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Ronan's talking about 'Purple Pills' acapella over 'Don't You want Me' - its pretty great as you'd expect, everything compliments everything else at the right moments etc.

There's a fabulous new Jameson track out called "Switch" - no vocals but perhaps the most meaty 2-step groove since Menta & Dynamite's "Ramp". It's put out under the pseudonym Soulo (as was "True" originally).

I'm curious to hear the version of "True" as was actually released - the copy I have from last year just has the "on your back flat like Dominos/we can roll like dice/melt like ice..." etc. section but apparantly now there's apparently female and male vocals??

Missy Elliott ft Ludacris 'Gossip Folks'

I like how Missy sounds like a Missy/Brian Johnson hybrid on this. Plus, the Luda ref. to Kindergarden Cop is really great.

The Nelly album came out before Justin's Like I Love You and Work It made me think of the Justin-Michael channeling all by myself! Everyone's jumped on the bandwagon since, you know. I like Nelly, but his rapping sounds boring when in the same song as Kelly R or Justin T.

The Ludacris guest spot is hella juicy on Missy's single. I like this even better than One Minute Man, possibly. The Fatboy Slim remix adds some funky guitar lick and mixes a 4/4 beat in and out. Very nice.

Jaimeson record doesn't impress me at all. The singing is quite off-putting, a crap song basically. Tim is so right about Switch, though. Ouch! That is MASSIVE.

Been a while since I played the Peter Gabriel remix (thankfully not much PG in there) but even though I'm not much of a Röyksopp fan (check out those Eple remixes though!) this remix struck me as very special.

Is it just me, or is "It's not a tumor" the most oft-quoted catchphrase from a movie that isn't actually popular? I'm sure Kindergarten Cop did good business on release, but do you know anyone that owns it, or even still likes it, twelve years later? And yet we all get the reference...

And yet we all get the reference...

Eh, no we don't...

Seconded!
