Who is the bigger cunt?

pedro the jaguar, Sunday, 9 March 2003 03:08 (twenty-three years ago)

She's got the brains. He's got the brawn. Let's them make lots of money.

I believe this thread will self-destruct before too long...

Matt Maxwell (Matt M.), Sunday, 9 March 2003 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

End of thread! Matt shuts it down in a first round TKO!

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Sunday, 9 March 2003 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

She's got the brains. He's got the brawn.

Well, the reverse actually, but same difference.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 9 March 2003 03:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't know who is the bigger cunt but I know who has the bigger cunt and it isn't Miss Love!

georgey, Sunday, 9 March 2003 03:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think they're both great.
For some definition of 'great'.

Both helped Nirvana enormously, if that's why you've set them on each other.

She's got the brains. He's got the brawn. Let's them make lots of money.

I suppose in this case we should be grateful that they never got together.

j.lu (j.lu), Sunday, 9 March 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

There is no one worse than Courtney Love. Ever.

Plus.....Albini shamelessly honors the fire.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 9 March 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

>>Both helped Nirvana enormously, if that's why you've set them on each other. <<

I can see Steve Albini helping Nirvana but Courtney Hole? What evidence is there of this?

Burning Flags, Sunday, 9 March 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

well, albini has been involved in the making of more great music. i gather he's supposed to be a rather unpleasant man, but he's more obnoxious-but-somewhat-principled, whereas courtney is obnoxious in a loud-undignified-drama-queen way (which is less good).

good things about courtney: she's good-looking, she's nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe, she's made a few decent records, she was good in "The People Versus Larry Flynt".

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Sunday, 9 March 2003 18:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Both helped Nirvana enormously
....if driving kurt to end is life is helping....

dyson (dyson), Sunday, 9 March 2003 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

In Utero. It's all about feelings and Courtney must be largely responsible for the way Kurt felt around that time.

....if driving kurt to end is life is helping....

I didn't say she helped Kurt but she did help Nirvana make their best album.

Anyway, he had to die so we'd know he meant it.

mei (mei), Sunday, 9 March 2003 19:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok, smartypants, get them both in my bed and I'll report back to you.

And by the way, being
obnoxious in a loud-undignified-drama-queen way
is NOTHING to be ashamed of!

BurmaKitty (BurmaKitty), Sunday, 9 March 2003 19:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought this thread was about their respective 'kids the record labels are out to fuck you' screeds. Took me a few seconds to realize the Nirvana connection, actually.

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Both have done their part to make the music world that much more fascinating and I thank them for it. But my love of rigid personal moral codes make me vote for Albini.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:09 (twenty-three years ago)

There is no one worse than Courtney Love. Ever.
Plus.....Albini shamelessly honors the fire.

Well, I've heard Cuntneys records and I suspect she at least warms her hands with The Fire.
Side note: Just got done reading "Our Band Could Be Your Life" and was appalled by the pictures of Albini. I'd always imagined him as a vaguely Rob Zombie-ish looking monstrosity with sharp teeth and horns growing out of his eyesockets...
Instead, there's he's a scrawny stick figure who looks like a young, constipated Martin Landau.
*Sigh.* Its always a tragedy when your heroically idealized fantasy is shattered on the rocks of reality.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve Albini is supposed to be a really nice guy from what people who have worked with him have said - you can be nice and have a big ego. He also gives unsigned bands a huge discount.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Subthread: GG Allin vs Steve Albini

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:47 (twenty-three years ago)

apparently courtney's version of the record company rant was taken almost verbatim from albini's forced exposure article.

this one is no contest.

Dave M. (rotten03), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Shellac offer free donuts at their shows. Hole don't. Albini wins.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

at least mr albini doesnt need to find a new boyfriend to write songs for him everytime he makes an album. i was never too fond of nancy spungeon.

Bosse-De-Nage (Bosse-De-Nage), Sunday, 9 March 2003 21:09 (twenty-three years ago)

mei,

okay, point taken.

kilian,

you think courtney is beautiful? hmmm... i guess se all can't be friends (LOL)

steve albini and a rigid moral code... who's he trying to be? the ayn and/immanuel kant of the music set? no one lives in a totally black and white world. to have a moral code so rigid it does not account for culutral and individual perspective shows a naivete so profound it is disturbing.

Lord Custos, you are so OTM except you left out his striking rodent-like features. Guys like that really should watch what they say, even if they are correct becauseit would take a search on the magnitude of American Idol to find someone who couldn't kick his ass.

However... i this is about taking sides, no, I reapeat no one (to paraphrase Mr. Alex in NYC) is as loathsome, useless and fowl and Courtney not Cox but Love. Hands down: Steve Albini. At least he has produced, coerced and mentored so of the best music of our age.

PS GG Allin can kiss my ass from the grave. Bait and switch suicide cop out non-songwriting fool!

Burning Flags, Sunday, 9 March 2003 21:26 (twenty-three years ago)

having strong beliefs is so pedestrian.

Bosse-De-Nage (Bosse-De-Nage), Sunday, 9 March 2003 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Shellac offer free donuts at their shows. Hole don't. Albini wins.
The donut holes (GROAN!) were all gone by the time you got the Hole show. You snooze you lose.

Hey!

For some of us that IS our HEROICALLY IDEALIZED FANTASY!

you can be nice and have a big ego.

Of course; I know, Sweetheart.

BurmaKitty (BurmaKitty), Monday, 10 March 2003 02:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Lord Custos, you are so OTM except you left out his striking rodent-like features.
Well, the pictures in OBCBYL all seem to throw his Martin-Landau-ness
into sharp relief. But his arms look so skinnnnnny. I woulda thought he'd have regular guitarist gorilla arm.

Guys like that really should watch what they say, even if they are correct because it would take a search on the magnitude of American Idol to find someone who couldn't kick his ass.
I'd love to see Simon whatzisface get smashed by Albini.

PS GG Allin can kiss my ass from the grave. Bait and switch suicide cop out non-songwriting fool!
Yeah! I say we all disinter his sorry ass and give him a good kicking. Every member of ILM gets to kick him in the ribs three times each. I'll bring a shovel to dig up the grave, anybody got a crowbar to open the casket with?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 10 March 2003 02:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve Albini is very opinionated, but isn't actually an unpleasant person, contrary to the common assumption. I think his ideas about recording bands were interesting until he (apparently) arrived at the conclusion that once you've formulated an aesthetic, you have to freeze it in amber or it somehow becomes invalid (hence the diminishing returns of his recording since whenever, with the surprising exception of Low, whom he records with what I hear as a rather looser touch).

Courtney Love's repositioning as savvy self-determining popcult goddess is one of the more disingenuous feats of self-delusion I've ever seen on the part of some members of the music press, but whatever, "Malibu"'d be an OK song if it were two-minutes-thirty

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 10 March 2003 03:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Well it's not her fault that she obliterates everything she kisses.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Monday, 10 March 2003 03:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I think Albini's sound is frozen more cos of the sound of the rooms he records in. He a lovely bloke and very fucking funny. Courtney Love appears, other than having a major role in a saleable mid 90s Rock Legend Tale (copyright VH1), to be largely useless and self-obsessed.
Besides, anyone who could record the current Songs:Ohia LP live in 3 days and make it sound like it does deserves to win.

Joss, Monday, 10 March 2003 05:29 (twenty-three years ago)

john & joss: i think his aesthetic is frozen, but only in relation to certain types of bands. the whole goat/rid of me/at action park sound hasn't really evolved, but with bands like the sadies (who do some psychedelic stuff on their first couple of records - dirty hippies) a very different and much warmer sound emerges. that rye coalition album 'on top' sounded almost like a mutt lange kind of thing to these ears, which was the point obv. with the incessant ac/dc references. i think the thing with albini production is that we hear the drums, which are sort of the signature part of his sound and probably aren't going to change (nor do they need to be, imho), and don't listen to much of what is being done with the other instruments.

Dave M. (rotten03), Monday, 10 March 2003 05:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I once made out a list of 20 things I would do if I ever became a famous rock star. On the list was "hire Steve Albini to produce my answering machine message."

Lithium Lunchbox (Lithium Lunchbox), Monday, 10 March 2003 07:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Somewhat off the subject, is it true that Ms. Love has denied having plastic surgery, despite her obviously rhinoplasty-downsized nose?

Lee G (Lee G), Monday, 10 March 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

cocaine?

Jon Williams (ex machina), Monday, 10 March 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe Ms Love when she says her nose has not got under the knife. It is smaller now than before because of all the wear and tear it has gone through since it has been stuck in everybody business so much for so long.

Lithium Lunchbox (Lithium Lunchbox), Monday, 10 March 2003 19:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought La Love admitted to having gotten a nose job around the time Pretty on the Inside came out?
