TS Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" vs. Sisters of Mercy's "Emma"

Both are covers of solid, melodic pop songs (Eurythmics and Hot Chocolate respectively, of course), and both are given the overwrought gothic melodrama treatment.

I'll go with the Sisters, because their brand of silliness was more fun than Marilyn's. Just.

Emma!

Oh please.....as if Marilyn Manson could ever sincerely produce something worhty of discussion?

The Sisters are so far above Marilyn Manson their ears must be popping.

that should be "worthy", by the by.

mmm... okay, I was just comparing the two songs, as the concept is similar enough, not the two bands/artists. I don't really know much of Marilyn's stuff, but I used to have most of the Sisters 12" singles, before I gave away all my vinyl *sob*

I prefer the Eurythmics original anyway...

What about the Hot Chocolate original?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I prefer the "Get the Party Started Sweet Dreams Remix feat. Redman" brand of silliness, I do!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

What about the Hot Chocolate original?

Too R&B. I'd rather go for some later Hot Chocolate such as "It Started With a Kiss" or "No Doubt About It"

By the way I feel I'm not quite part of Pink's club because I don't actually know what she means by "I can go for miles / if you know what I mean." What do you mean, Pink?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone should slit P!nk's throat.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 10 March 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Tracer I think yo uknow damned well what she means, ahem.

alex how does your wife feel about this constant need to express violent hostility towards women?

jess (dubplatestyle), Monday, 10 March 2003 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

It's more a violent hostility towards specific individuals. That Pink happens to be a woman is incidental.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 10 March 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, jess, he's constantly threatening to burn and urinate on loads of dudes, like Blink 182 and Good Charlotte for instance!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 10 March 2003 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

No I really don't know what she means. At first I thought "go for miles" meant that she could like, party for a long time. But she wouldn't be so coy about that. I guess she's talking about sex? She can "go for miles" in the sack? But that's weird, too, to hear a girl talk about staying power, or stamina? I guess it happens. Somebody told me once that "they call me thumper, I'm like the Energizer bunny"

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 March 2003 19:06 (twenty-three years ago)

"In bed, I'm like the Energizer bunny; I'm covered in pink fur and I like to pummel my partners with sticks until they die."

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 10 March 2003 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan until now I had never considered that the Energizer bunny was having an affair with his bass drum.

Again I have brought a little piece of myself to the world and hopefully left it a better place.
