basically i'm obsessed with in da club. 50 cent's voice is like being in a pub 10 minutes before closing time and listening to the obligatory drunk telling you about the time he saw west ham beat chelsea 3-0 and you're not particularly interested in the story but his voice is full of zest and intricate emotions that your young self could never imagine. scarface has a similar affect on me but i'm actually interested in his stories.

so which rappers' voices do you find most infectious?

i really like the way 50 cent stutters over his T's, like when he rhymes vendetta with chedder in wanksta, that's infectious

new answers please, preferably not dose one

schnell schnell, Sunday, 9 March 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Freeway.

then Aesop.

Then Ludacris, who's flow is so ridiculous it's hard to fault him for saying such dumb shit

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 9 March 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

anyone heard freeway's album yet by the by?

schnell schnell, Sunday, 9 March 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

It's pretty obvious to say, I guess, but on his best songs I find Nelly's not-quite-sing-rap thing to be ridiculously infectious, only maybe not in any sort of drunkard-at-closing-time fashion.

wl (wl), Sunday, 9 March 2003 17:54 (twenty-three years ago)

a shout for Busta here, and indeed Marshall

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 9 March 2003 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Busta Rhymes. Then Q-Tip.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 9 March 2003 22:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The debut lines of "In da club" are very addictive, especially the "we don't give a f**k that it's your birthday"
The rappers voices I find infectious are
B-Real
Magoo
Kool Keith
and with a different style, Buck 65

Sami (Sami), Sunday, 9 March 2003 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

KRS-One lights up any track he appears on.

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh no contest. Q-TIP!

The dudes from Group X

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Weird... Biggie had one of my least favorite hip hop voices. Not to speak ill of the dead, but it always sounded like he was midway through a mouthful of venison to me.

Good calls on Snoop and Q-Tip.

wl (wl), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:33 (twenty-three years ago)

tanya winley

Bosse-De-Nage (Bosse-De-Nage), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Del Tha funky homosapien ... cool delivery
Charli 2na from J5
Mr Lif and aesop rock

Mr Monket (apn99), Sunday, 9 March 2003 23:38 (twenty-three years ago)

despite their lack of hardcore cred i think the Fugees deserve a mention - all three had good technique that complimented each other well (three IS the magic number) but also stood up on their own - i always liked Pras' flow on 'Ghetto Superstar' at least, and Lauryn Hill's rapping voice is coherent, elegant and engaging as a result...Wyclef, well he sounded a lot better in the pre-Ecleftic era i guess (i like him a lot on 'Nappy Heads', 'Fu-Gee La' and even 'Ready Or Not')

stevem (blueski), Monday, 10 March 2003 01:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Del seconded, definitely - I love the way his voice sounds so close to a lisp but never plunges full-on into the abyth of lithpdom (no dis!) - and Chilly Gonzales right now, absolutely.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 10 March 2003 02:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Erick and Parrish Makin' Dollars
didn'tItellyoutoleaveFlavorFlav alone, knocka?

Neudonym, Monday, 10 March 2003 04:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i agree, but that 'BOMP BOMP have a nice dream!' line from gimme the loot is like chicken pox

i also nominate big-l, a great mc who is rarely mentioned on ilm

schnell schnell, Monday, 10 March 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

'bout time jay got a shout. i also second luda.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 10 March 2003 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Cee Lo Green; either singing or rapping, his voice is OUTSTANDING. His voice occupies a very unique sonic niche in how it's really strong but also a little raspy, kinda like a gospelled-out Peter Gabriel.

Del is a given...it's the way he uses the tone/inflection of his voice, all his stuff sounds extremely conversational and distinct.

Method Man has one of the most infectious voices around; I remember in high school we all tried to do Meth impressions, that was fuN!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 March 2003 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Also: Lyrics Born, Chali 2na, Vast Aire, Blu Rum 13.

Orange, Monday, 10 March 2003 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Lyrics Born (apart from being jess's least favorite rapper, apparently) is the only rapper whose voice I have ever heard in my dreams.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 March 2003 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Charlie Tuna

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 March 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude! In what context?

Orange, Monday, 10 March 2003 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

well I don't really know much Jurassic 5 but his voice is just like sex on that one Roots Manuva song

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 March 2003 20:10 (twenty-three years ago)

he namechecks Anthony Keidis and Branford Marsalis yet I still like his voice = transcendence

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 10 March 2003 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

In what context?

It was a weird driving dream, I was driving a huge Mack truck, and I didn't really know how to shift gears and stuff, and I was driving over all these weird endless bridges suspended hundreds of feet above the ground, and his voice was on the radio all by itself (no beat or music) giving traffic reports and reading fake dream "news" like it was NPR...and it was all in rhyme, and definitely his voice.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 March 2003 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

My mom heard TCQ for the first time yesterday, she said:

"I wish all rap was like this. This guy's voice sounds like summertime."

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 10 March 2003 20:22 (twenty-three years ago)

robin (robin), Monday, 10 March 2003 21:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i forgot; ghostface is the best wu mc cuz he has such a vital voice

schnell schnell, Monday, 10 March 2003 21:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't believe no one mentioned Ja Rule so far! (his barking must be infectious judging by my younger brother strange behaviour in the pub last time).
But my voice goes for Snoop. He's not my favourite rapper (although for me it's hard to imagine someone not liking him), but his 'Figaro, Figaro" phrase in that Lil Kim track (I just forgot the title; Neptunes production)'ve got stuck in my head for few days and I'm glad 'bout that. He is so mellow!

luke (luke), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:16 (twenty-three years ago)

yes! "Women love the voice, brothas dig the lyrics"

pete b. (pete b.), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:32 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, and Mr.Lif is like Q-Tip's autumnal version.
and spring editon: Blu Rum

( no ideas for the winter, but abovementioned three really sounds somehow similar to my ears.)

luke (luke), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 11:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, Big L. I concur.
