New York February 6, 2003
Ten of Sweden’s hottest new music acts are scheduled to perform in a showcase at the legendary rock club CBGB's in New York City, March 10-11, organized by Export Music Sweden in cooperation with the Consulate General of Sweden in New York. The bands will then travel on to the music festival South by Southwest in Austin, TX, where they'll take the stage at Maggie Mae's on March 14-15. From there, the entourage will head to Los Angeles for a two-day visit, performing at the legendary Spaceland on March 16 and closing the mini-tour at Troubadour on March 17.
"New Swedish bands have been getting extraordinary attention in the U.S. during the last few years. The Swedish Showcase will introduce ten of the most exciting newcomers to American audiences" says Olle Wästberg, Consul General of Sweden in New York.
"This is without a doubt our biggest promotional campaign yet focusing on the U.S. market. Sweden is literally bursting with talent and we'll be presenting a hand-picked number of artists, all exceptional in their own right, and equally capable of taking America by storm," says Christer Lundblad, CEO for Export Music Sweden.
In recent years, the Consulate General of Sweden in New York has played an important role in supporting Swedish popular music and culture in the U.S.
The Swedish Showcase is open to the public, and tickets via online registration will be availible here for both dates (March 10 and 11).

The first bands have now been selected:
The Mo (National)
With a brash mix of clever 80s-inspired pop, infectious melodies and swaggering charisma, the Mo have caused a serious splash on the Swedish scene. The debut album City Hearts and three chart-climbing singles have solidified their reputation as one of Sweden's most exciting new bands.
The Sounds (Warner Music)
Voted "Best Swedish Newcomer" by several of the biggest Swedish media outlets and nominated for two Swedish Grammies, the Sounds are a slick, new-wave-inspired rock band that has taken the country by storm. Their debut album, Living in America, has already been picked up by former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha's Scratchie Records and is set to hit U.S. record stores this spring.
Whyte Seeds (Stockholm Records)
Pure adrenaline! The Whyte Seeds are obvious stand-outs among the many bold new bands emerging from the burgeoning Göteborg scene. With super-hard, short catchy songs and undeniable visual appeal, the Whyte Seeds will rock your socks off.
The $1000 Playboys (Massproduktion)
Largely inspired by artists such as the Allman Brothers, Gram Parsons and the Band, the $1000 Playboys have been winning over fans and critics alike with their unique Swedish take on American country rock. Their recently released second full-length, Stay, cuts a wider musical path than ever and has received numerous accolades in the Swedish press.
Marit Bergman (Sugartoy)
Shimmering power-pop from Sweden’s favorite indie princess. After previously fronting the punk outfit Candysuck, singer/songwriter Marit Bergman went solo in 2002 with the self-released 3:00 A.M. Serenades, and has since been garnering rave reviews and heavy radio rotation with her dreamy, perfectly crafted pop gems.
Prime sth (Reprise)
Having opened for bands like Faith No More and Rage Against The Machine, Stockholm's Prime sth are committed to solid melodies, brooding lyrics and a powerful alternative sound. Their debut album, Underneath the Surface, is a great mix of radio-friendly alt-pop, grungy ballads and straight-ahead rock'n'roll.
