Wooly Reaper, Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:47 (twenty-three years ago)

of his recent stuff, "The Mercy Seat"
of his classic stuff "Straight A's In Love"

"if they were given marks for kissing in the dark..."

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Er, maybe "Don't Take Your Guns to Town."

Amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm a real sucker for his cover of "i've been everywhere" esp. the part where you can tell he's smiling.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 16:59 (twenty-three years ago)

"Talkin' Viet Nam Blues" is CLASSIC esp. in these times...v chilling to hear about Johnny being scared. Gotta go with Folsom Prison Blues, though, for my all-time fave.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:00 (twenty-three years ago)

His "Jackson" duet with June Carter.

His "Girl From The North Country" duet with Bob Dylan.

christoff (christoff), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

"The Next in Line"

Burr, Tuesday, 11 March 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

robin (robin), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 18:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I go with "Ring Of Fire" which was the second 45 I bought.

brg30 (brg30), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

If I'm allowed a recent/old choice each like Horace, then I'll go along with 'The Mercy Seat' as well, and pick 'Were you there (When they crucified my Lord)' as being a remarkable sounding song from further back.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

My favorite is "Any Old Wind That Blows." "Kate" is really good too.

Leon Neyfakh, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

"And i'll follow you big river, when you caaaaaaaal"

Johnney B (Johnney B), Thursday, 13 March 2003 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

"I taught the weeping willow how to cry, cry, cry..."
Maybe I'll pick that one, if I can change my mind. It's even a rare J.R. Cash composition.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 13 March 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Cash wrote tons of songs back in the day!

Alright I'll pick "Get Rhythm".

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my god, "Guess things happen that way" is at once, the best pop, best rock, and best country song EVER.

So great.

Also, all of his new stuff, and, "Why is a fire engine red?" because it's funny.

David Allen, Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:00 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven months pass...
Amateurist OTM.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It may be very overtly socio-political, but you could do a whole lot worse than "The Man In Black".

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"Cocaine Blues"

Not That Chuck, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

springtime in alaska

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! OTM.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Of his new stuff, Personal Jesus
Of his old stuff, probably Long Black Veil

Sym (shmuel), Thursday, 11 March 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

This is the hardest question ever. "Starkville City Jail" or "Big River."

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Thursday, 11 March 2004 06:27 (twenty-two years ago)

New : "One"
Old: "Don't Take Your Guns to Town"

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 11 March 2004 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 11 March 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

New: "The Man Comes Around"
Old: "Big River"

subgenius (subgenius), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

"San Quentin," complete with crazed screaming of inmates.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Thursday, 11 March 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I know ridiculously little by him, but "Hurt" is crushingly good.

Nick H (Nick H), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

The version of "Peace in the Valley" that was used in Frailty, which I saw last night, was extremely well chosen.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"This Burden of Freedom"

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

OT: Would a person who despises most of Bill Paxton's other work still enjoy Frailty, Ned? It *looks* like a film I'd enjoy, but Paxton is a major deterrant.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmm, if you're a Paxton hater then you might have problems. Personally I thought it was an incredible film (as seen here), and I thought Paxton did an incredible job as a very loving father with a particular goal.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 11 March 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"I Walk The Line"

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 11 March 2004 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)
