Who said "unmelodic pop" means ENTIRELY without melody?
The ranting on those songs is as or more important than the melody lines.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

human resource - dominator

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 23:16 (twenty-three years ago)

i think if there are clear, differentiated melodies in the chorus esp it shouldn't count as "unmelodic"...i mean, "what do you want me to saaaaaaaay, what do you want me to dooooo" isn't exactly cole porter, but still

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 11 March 2003 23:18 (twenty-three years ago)

No such thing. Although some people would claim that stuff like "The Power" with Snap would fit into that category.

(umelodic, yes, but not pop)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 00:11 (twenty-three years ago)

how bout Van Dyke Parks? Search, of course - but I must have listened to Song Cycle 100 times in my lifetime and would be hard pressed to hum any of it

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

i class 'The Power' as pop, pure and simple - modernised pop perhaps

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I class nothing that contains rap as pop.

Funny how fond you are of the phrase "melodic pop", then.

I can hum "Vine Street."

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

funny how the most "popular" genre in the world still fails to be "pop" geir

robin (robin), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 02:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I class nothing that contains rap as pop.

What about 'Wham! Rap'? Wham! define pop.

Or Michael Jackson's 'Black or White'. MJ was the King of Pop.

What the hell do you mean by pop, anyway?

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 02:43 (twenty-three years ago)
