Best saxophone parts in dance music

Define dance music however you like, but I've been noticing these really cool sax solos in electro songs lately so I thought maybe people might know about more of them.

Also I preemptively mention Danger High Voltage just so you lot won't obsess over it throughout the rest of the thread.

Laughing Clowns "Eternally Yours". Probably the only sax line I can listen to without wanting to puke (not entirely true, but...)

SHIT that's not dance music I SUCK I SUCK

to make up for this i vote for "Infinity" by Guru Josh

Maceo Parker ownz this thread.

Black Machine's 'How Gee' from '93/'94 - but i think the sax is a sample

Dillinja's 'Promise' brilliantly sampled a Sade song including saxophone

Royksopp's 'She's So' has a nice sax intro

there's a track on the Audio Bullys album which has sax but cant remember which one, possibly 'face in a cloud'

there's sax on DJ Shadow's 'Changeling' but its not very dancey really

now all i can think of is the sax on Bill Medley and Jennifer Warner's 'Time Of My Life' - argh

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

spacetime continum has so very 'hip' sax solos in lots of his songs.

also dancy synth pop often has sax solos. (I'm not motivated enough to find specific examples)

Tim Deluxe-We All Love Sax.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Layo and Bushwacka-Love Story (Tim Deluxe Remix)

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I *hate* the sax solo in that Tim Deluxe mix... ruins the entire track for me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Why has no one mentioned Pacific State yet?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh, how do you hate it! I don't care for the Finally remix though, I think I've heard the song about 3 million times at this stage.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't listened to L&B (or, indeed, much other house music at the moment) for ages, but that Tim Deluxe mix was ace in principle because it nicely amalgamated the two different halves of the original tune. But mostly it was all about that big, gleaming riff with those sweeping Orbital-esque melodic lines over the top and recapturing that feeling I got when I first started listening to dance music back when it still felt modern and spacey and otherworldly to me (which, brilliant as they are, I didn't get when listening to Cosmos or Bangalter and Falcon or Space Cowboy or whoever). Plonking a parping sax solo over the top just felt like dragging it all back down to earth for me.

I don't particularly like saxophones in general, it has to me said.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:56 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm not sure its a sax on 'Pacific' Matt, Graham Massey mimed playing an electric clarinet on Top Of The Pops....possibly an electric sax was used for the recording itself

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:58 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and Guru Josh's follow up single 'WHose Law Is It Anyway?' (if ANYONE can remember this one apart from me I'll be dead impressed) featured a sax melody that actually outstripped 'Infinity' somewhat - truly 1990 WAS indeed time for the Guru

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

the solo on M People's "Movin' On Up" ownz this thread

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:01 (twenty-three years ago)

is there sax on St Etienne's 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' or again am i confusing it with clarinet or even trumpet?

also, there MUST be saxophone on Sabres Of Paradise's 'Haunted Dancehall' (i've got the CD but cant really tell where) - the Sabres mix of Red Snapper's 'Hot Flush' is NOT a saxophone but i sometimes think it is

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 11:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I just walked down the hall of my place and all I could hear was the saxophone solo from the New Birth Brass Band record playing in my room over the industrial house beat coming from my roommate's room. It sounded good. In fact, it was the best saxophone part in dance music I ever heard.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

...anything by Modern Romance, although 'Eye eye eye eye Moosey' was their creative pinnacle for me.......

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)
