Howdy Hooty Sapperticker!

Barbara and the Boys - Hootie Sapperticker

MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

Donna Summer - MacArthur Park

Vlad, Vlad, Vlad the impaler
Vlad, Vlad, He could have been a sailor but he's
Vlad, Vlad, Vlad the impaler
Vlad, Vlad, He could have been a Whaler
could have been a Tailor,
He turned out to be Norman Mailer

GWAR - Vlad the Impaler

I can almost forgive the GWAR lyric...it was designed to suck. But the other two have no excuse.
So what is you least fave lyric in the history of recorded sound?

In spite of my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 05:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i love the song "everyone everywhere" by new order, but whenever i get to this point in the song, i literally wince, every time. it's like watching the movie up to a part where you know someone's going to embarass themselves something awful, and turning away like a squeamish git because you can't bear the sympathetic pity.

the point in question is the following brilliant chorus:

How could I fail to give her
When she cried such a lot
People change but we don't falter
Cause we use what we've got

SUCH A LOT? SUCH A LOT? what the fuck, barney? what the fuck?
most of new order's output is like this. beautiful, beautiful music. lyrics bordering on the infantile. it might be on purpose, it might not, i don't care. "such a lot" is unforgivable.

p.s. i know there are worse examples extant, but bad lyrics in an otherwise pretty song just makes the grammatical awfulness even harder to bear.

soundnfury, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 05:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, you're mean, Mr. Diamond. :-(

Much as I love his band's music (less so than before, but still), the Collected Lyrics Works of Wayne Hussey, Esq. has the sparkling air and restrained delicacy of Vogon poetry. To quote one cliche would barely scrape the surface.

During KEXP's fund drive, they played a song with lyrics so asinine that I almost flat out refused to pledge money to that station ever again...

The opening line:
"I've got a timb bomb
I hope ya don't mind, mom..."

That was it. I turned my radio off immediately. It didn't help that the lyrics were song in some forced faux Archers Of Loaf style drawl.

hmmm...

"now he's getting a tattoo yeah he's gettin' ink done" and all the rest of that awful Offspring song

a LOT of otherwise great VU songs have lyrics I'd consider horrible

more when i think of them

Yesterday, Daisy Mae and Biff were grooving on the street
And just like in a movie, her hands became her feet
Her belly button was her mouth
Wich meant she tasted what she'd speak

But the funny thing is what happened to her nose
It grew until it reached all of her toes
Now when people say her feet they mean her nose

wl (wl), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 06:58 (twenty-three years ago)

How about this:

'This is a song about my dilemma
I have a big decision to make
Though I love my boyfriend dearly
I adore chocolate cake
Boyfriend chocolate boyfriend chocolate
I need you - chocolate too'

And it goes on. By an unknown electro-pop band called Schmoof.

The chorus of Travis' Why Does It Always Rained On Me? is just vile. Another piece of trash is 'He was a sk8er boy she said see you l8er boy...'

Tijn Gilissen, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 09:12 (twenty-three years ago)

that schmoof lyric rulez!!

Random Lou Reed Lyric search...

Jenny said, when she was just five years old
there was nothin' happening at all
Every time she puts on the radio
there was nothin' goin' down at all
not at all

Then one fine mornin', she puts on a New York station
you know she couldn't believe what she heard at all
She started shakin' to that fine-fine music
you know her life was saved by rock 'n' roll

Despite all the amputations
you know you could just go out
and dance to the rock 'n' roll station
And it was all right, hey baby, you know
it was all right

Jenny said, when she was just about five years old
you know my parents are gonna be the death of us all
Two TV sets and two Cadillac cars
well you know ain't gonna help me at all
not just you ....

kevin brady (groeuvre), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 09:41 (twenty-three years ago)

this is the longest i've ever seen a discussion about bad lyrics last without someone mentioning des'ree, 'Life.' so i'll do the honours:

Ooh, Yeah
Oh yeah
Oh Life
Oh Life

I'm afraid of the dark
Especially when I'm in the park
When there's no one else around
Oh I get the shivers
I don't wanna see a ghost
It's the sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
Watch the evening news

Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life

I'm a superstitious girl
I'm the worst in the world
Never walk under ladders
I keep a rabbits' tail
I'll take you up on a dare
Anytime, anywhere
Name the place, I'll be there
Bungee jumping, I don't care

Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life

So after all's said and done
I know I'm not the only one
Life indeed can be fun
If you really want to
Sometimes living out your dreams
Ain't as easy as it seems
You wanna fly around the world
In a beautiful balloon

Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Oh life, oh life..

i give you...The Cranberries

"I Just ShotJohn Lennon"

It was the fearful night of December 8th.

He was returning home from the studio late.

He had perseptively known that it wouldn't be nice.

Because in 1980, he paid the price.

John Lennon died. [X6]

With a Smith & Wesson 38,

John Lennon's life was no longer a debate.

He should have stayed at home,

He should have never cared,

And the man who took his life declared,

He said I just shot John Lennon.

He said I just shot John Lennon.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

Ah, ah ah ah, ah...

I just shot John Lennon.

He said I just shot John Lennon.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

What a sad and sorry and sickening sight.

What a sad and sorry and sickening night.

Ah, ah ah ah, ah...

Crying and dying like Jews
Do you like tennis?"

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 09:55 (twenty-three years ago)

chris de burgh, anyone?

"If beds could talk, mine would be singing,
Singing about the time when you and I were lovers,
All night long, we could not stop,
They were amazing times, they were the crazy times,"

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 09:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Four in the morning and I just can't sleep
I've got a craving now for something sweet
So I head off for my local all-night supermarket,
When I get there, it's deserted;
And now I'm standing at the chocolate shelf,
Under the sign that says, "Help Yourself"
If you really gotta have it,
then we really gotta sell it to ya
This is for people who say....

I want it and I want it now!
I want it and I just can't wait!
I want it and I want it now.
I want it and I will not wait......
I want it.......now

I sit at home and when I watch TV,
I gotta have remote control with me,
Oh and when I'm watching football,
I can go to total recall,
I got freeze frame, I got slo - mo.
This is the way that it was meant to be,
You gotta get ready for the century
I'm a total modern man,
And I got total modern plans
And it's so easy when you say.....
I want it and I want it now!

"In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mister Krushchev said, 'We will bury you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It'd be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too

How can I save my little boy
From Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
There is no monopoly on common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too

There is no historical precedent to put
Words in the mouth of the president
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mister Reagan says 'We will protect you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too"

It actually manages to make "De do do do / De da da da / Is all I want to say to you" seem like a work of genius by comparison.

"I'd like to buy a shotgun
Shooting MPs conservatives, communists
They're all the bleeding same

What have we got
What have we got
What have we got
What have we got

I don't really care no more
I don't care at all
A black man's black and a white man's white
But we're all the bleeding same

What have we got
What have we got
What have we got
What have we got"

Sham 69.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

He asked me "So where have you been?"
Let me think now let me see.
I stood once where Hitler's feet
Had stood when he made a speech
In Nuremburg in '38
When he tried to build a perfect race,
He said "Black men ain't gonna run alongside our perfect sons."
There was Dallas too, the library, the place they ended Kennedy.
We stood where Oswald took his shot, in my opinion there's a bigger plot.

A couple of gems from Reading's '77 punk heroes The K9's; written from memory so please excuse any mistakes (like any of you know what they should be!):

"Sitting in the jungle in the long tall grass
Sits fat Idi on his big black arse
Round about eleven he's got nothing to do
So he kills a few people like me and you

Tell Idi Amin
Tell Idi I'm out
Tell that Idi
I am not about

Round about six he's getting ready for tea
Roast nun and missionary
Then about ten he gets ready for bed
After watching a man get a bullet in the head"

or if you prefer:

"Sitting in a chair someone's hands in my hair
Short back and sides leaves nothing to hide
The walls are red and so is the door
I can see a bit of flesh over there on the floor

He's so fucked up always a razor cut
Leaves a bit on top but he don't know when to stop
Sweeney Todd, Sweeney Todd, Sweeney Todd
You're a fuckin' old sod"

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 10:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Europop owns this. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Germany's answer to humankind's endless quest for a second rate Atomic Kitten rip-off, Wonderwall, with their hit "I'm Just More":

Look behind my face and love me
I'm not the good girl you should know

There was a time when I thought of you
There was a time when you thought of me
Look in my eyes and say you love me
Look in my eyes and say you want me

Your love only had time for me at night
Your love had no time for me inside so
I've had enough time to think it over
I've had enough time to decide yes and I say

There's another word for love
There's another word of course
I'm just more than you can see obviously

I'm just more, I'm just more, I'm just more
I'm just more, I'm just more, I'm just more

It's too late to look beyond
It's too late to darn my socks
I left my shoes left you behind
Ran barfooted* through the crowd yeah

There's another word for love
There's another word of course
I'm just more than you can see obviously

I'm just more, I'm just more, I'm just more
I'm just more, I'm just more, I'm just more

There's another word for love
There's another word of course
I'm just more than you can see obviously

It's too late to look beyond
It's too late to darn my socks
I left my shoes left you behind
Ran barfooted through the crowd yeah

There's another word for love
There's another word of course
I'm just more than you can see obviously

I'm just more, I'm just more, I'm just more
I'm just more, I'm just more, I'm just more

I'm just more

I've had enough time to think it over
I've had enough time to decide yes and I say

There's another word for love
There's another word of course
I'm just more than you can see obviously

Yes and I say
There's another word for love

*This is how it's spelled on the lyric sheet, and it sounds like what she's singing. She also emphasizes the second syllable and works the long "oo" sound.

Oh God, I don't have a copy of it, but there's some song by Giovanni Salah about fending off the advances of jailbait that ends "But this young girl will always be on my mind/Especially come masturbation time."

times two to the six jonesin' for your fix of that limp bizkit mix so

while we fuck this track up now move in,
now move out hands up or hands down back up,

now breathe out hands up or hands down back up,
back up tell me what ya gonna do now keep rollin'

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The Cranberries win overall. Every song they've ever done sounds like a poem written by a 14 year old.

Exhibit A:
But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

Exhibit B:
I'm free to decide, I'm free to decide,
And I'm not so suicidal after all.

You must have nothing,
More with your time to do.
There's a war in Russia,
And Sarajevo too.

Exhibit C:
And I remember all the things we once shared,
Watching T.V. movies in the living room armchair.
But they say it will work out fine.
Was it all a waste of time?

Exhibit D:
I spent last winter in New York,
And came upon a man.
He was sleeping on the streets and homeless,
He said, "I fought in Vietnam."

I rest my case.

cybele, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm missing your bed, I never sleep
Avoiding the spots where we'd have to speak
& this bottle of beast is taking me home.
I'm cuddling close to blankets and sheets
You're not alone & you're not discreet.
You make sure I know, who's taking you home.
I'm reading your note over again.
There is not a word that I comprehend,
except when you signed it
"I will love you always & forever"

As for now I'm gonna hear the saddest songs,
and sit alone and wonder,
how you're making out,
but as for me I wish that I was anywhere
with anyone making out

I'm missing your laugh, how did it break?
And when did your eyes begin to look fake?
I hope you're as happy as your pretending.
I'm missing you bed, I never sleep.
Avoiding the spots where we'd have to sleep.
And this bottle of beast is taking me home.

Your hair.
It's everywhere.
Screaming infidelities.
Taking it's wear.

It ain't a verse, but I still cringe over that "the movement you need is on your shoulder" bit every time.

Lee G (Lee G), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

(Off the Net, I don't have them memorized):

I knew he was different, in his sexuality
I went to his parties, as the straight minority
It never seemed a threat to my masculinity
He only introduced me to a wider reality

As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that he was gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart
But he's nobody's--

Hero--saves a drowning child
Cures a wasting disease
Hero--lands the crippled airplane
Solves great mysteries

Hero--not the handsome actor
Who plays a hero's role
Hero--not the glamor girl
Who'd love to sell her soul
If anybody's buying
Nobody's hero

I didn't know the girl, but I knew her family
All their lives were shattered
in a nightmare of brutality
They try to carry on, try to bear the agony
Try to hold some faith
in the goodness of humanity

As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that she was gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart
But she's nobody's--

Hero--the voice of reason
Against the howling mob
Hero--the pride of purpose
In the unrewarding job

Hero--not the champion player
Who plays the perfect game
Not the glamor boy
Who loves to sell his name
Everybody's buying
Nobody's hero

As the years went by we drifted apart
When I heard that you were gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart

Hero

Starting out with Berkeley Free Speech
And later on at People's Park
The winds of change fanned into flames
Student demonstrations spark
Down to Isla Vista where police felt so harassed
They called the special riot squad of the L. A. County Sheriff

Well there's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
Student demonstration time

The violence spread down South to where Jackson State brothers
Learned not to say nasty things about Southern policemen's mothers
Nothing much was said about it and really next to nothing done
The pen is mightier than the sword, but no match for a gun

Well there's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
Well there's a riot going on
'Cause it's student demonstration time

America was stunned on May 4, 1970
When rally turned to riot up at Kent State University
They said the students scared the Guard
Though the troops were battle dressed
Four martyrs earned a new degree
The Bachelor of Bullets
I know we're all fed up with useless wars and racial strife
But next time there's a riot, well, you best stay out of sight

Well there's a riot going on
There's a riot going on
Well there's a riot going on
Student demonstration time

Stay away when there's a riot going on...

In a world gone mad it's hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the nonviolent fight

Mirrors, smokescreens and lies
It's not the politicians but their actions I despise
You and Saddam should kick it like back in the day
With the cocaine and Courvoisier
But you build more bombs as you get more bold
As your mid-life crisis war unfolds
All you want to do is take control
Now put that access of evil bullshit on hold
Citizen rule number 2080
Politicians are shady
So people watch your back 'cause I think they smoke crack
I don't doubt it look at how they act

In a world gone mad it's hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the nonviolent fight

First the 'War On Terror' now war on Iraq
We're reaching a point where we can't turn back
Let's lose the guns and let's lose the bombs
And stop the corporate contributions that their built upon
Well I'll be sleeping on your speeches 'til I start to snore
'Cause I won't carry guns for an oil war
As-Salamu alaikum, wa alaikum assalam
Peace to the Middle East peace to Islam
Now don't get us wrong 'cause we love America
But that's no reason to get hysterica
They're layin' on the syrup thick
We ain't waffles we ain't havin' it

In a world gone mad it's hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the nonviolent fight

Now how many people must get killed?
For oil families pockets to get filled?
How many oil families get killed?
Not a damn one so what's the deal?

It's time to lead the way and de-escalate
Lose the weapons of mass destruction and the hate
Say ooh ah what's the White House doin'?
Oh no! Say, what in tarnation have they got brewing??!!!!???!!
Well I'm not pro Bush and I'm not pro Saddam
We need these fools to remain calm
George Bush you're looking like Zoolander
Trying to play tough for the camera
What am I on crazy pills? We've got to stop it
Get your hand out my grandma's pocket
We need health care more than going to war
You think it's democracy we're fighting for?

In a world gone mad it's hard to think right
So much violence hate and spite
Murder going on all day and night
Due time we fight the nonviolent fight

One of my older songs goes:

the buffalo ask how the bulls and the cows
honor on an arrow eating grass with the sparrow
atlantesians ask the grecians if their fate was just as pleasing
in our bedrooms in our sleep but we know it

It embarasses me nowadays.

"I’m digging on the isotopes
This metaphysics shit is dope
And if all this can give me hope
You know I’m satisfied
I got a lawyer and a manager
An agent and a chef
Three nannies, an assistant
And a driver and a jet
A trainer and a butler
And a bodyguard or five
A gardener and a stylist
Do you think I’m satisfied?
I’d like to express my extreme point of view
I’m not Christian and I’m not a Jew
I’m just living out the American dream
And I just realized that nothing
Is what it seems... "

We have the right to say what we want to say, we have the right to do what we want to do, and what I do in my house, you might not do in your house! So what I do in my house is my business! And the simple fact of it all is that we are BONDED by the First Amendment! We have the freedom of EXPRESSION! We have the freedom of CHOICE! ripped from today's airwaves...

Can't stop addicted to the shin dig
Cop top he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunkt the pistol that you pay for
This punk the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the westend
Knock out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth is some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burnin' so bright I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble
Go ask the dust for any answers
Come back strong with 50 belly dancers

[Chorus:]
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to

Sweetheart is bleeding in the snowcone
So smart she's leading me to ozone
Music the great communicator
Use two sticks to make it in the nature
I'll get you into penetration
The gender of a generation
The birth of every other nation
Worth your weight the gold of meditation
This chapter's going to be a close one
Smoke rings I know your going to blow one
All on a spaceship persevering
Use my hands for everything but steering
Can't stop the spirits when they need you
Mop tops are happy when they feed you
J. Butterfly is in the treetop
Birds that blow the meaning into bebop

[Repeat Chorus]

Wait a minute I'm passing out
Win or lose just like you
Far more shocking
Than anything i ever knew
How about you
10 more reasons
Why i need somebody new just like you
Far more shocking than anything I ever knew
Right on cue

Can't stop addicted to the shin dig
Cop top he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunkt the pistol that you pay for
This punk the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the westend
Knock out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth is some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burnin' so bright I wonder what the wave meant

Kick start the golden generator
Sweet talk but don't intimidate her
Can't stop the gods from engineering
Feel no need for any interfering
Your image in the dictionary
This life is more than ordinary
Can I get 2 maybe even 3 of these
Come from space
To teach you of the pliedes
Can't stop the spirits when they need you
This life is more than just a read thru

It's late 90s guitar strimming one-hit wonder type Lene Marlin!

Your words cut rather deeply
They're just some other lies
I'm hiding from a distance
I've got to pay the price
Defending all against it
I really don't know why
You're obsessed with all my secrets
You always make me cry

You seem to wanna hurt me
No matter what i do
I'm telling just a couple
But somehow it gets to you

But i've learned to get revenge
And i swear you'll experience that
Some day

I'm sitting down here
But hey you can't see me kinda invisible
You don't sense my stay not really hiding
Not like a shadow just thought i would
(but sure i wanna) join you for one day

I'm sitting down here
But hey you can't see me
I'm not trying to avoid you
Just don't wanna hear you voice
When you call me up so often
I don't really have a choice
You're talking like you know me
And wanna be my friend
But that's really too late now
I won't try it once again
You may think that i'm a loser
That i don't really care
You may think that it's forgotten
But you should be aware

"You're My Heart You're My Soul" by Modern Talking

Deep in my heart, there's a fire, a burning heart.
Deep in my heart, there's desire for a start.
I'm dying in emotion,
It's my world in fantasy.
I'm living in my, living in my dreams.

CHORUS:
You're my heart, you're my soul,
I keep it shining everywhere. I go.
You're my heart, you're my soul,
I'll be holding you forever, stay with you together.
You're my heart, you're my soul,
Yeah, a feeling that our love will grow.
You're my heart, you're my soul,
That's the only thing. I really know.

Let's close the door and believe my burning heart,
Feeling alright. Come on, open up your heart.
I'll keep the candles burning
Let your body melt in mine.
I'm living in my, living in my dreams.

(CHORUS)

I haven't clicked to view all the stuff in the middle of this thread but I'm convinced that MarkR has the win with "A World Gone Mad." It's a shame because, yeah, I mean, their hearts were in the right places and it was nice to hear the sentiments at that moment in time, but, I mean, read these bits again and tell me there's been anything worse posted on this thread:

Now don't get us wrong 'cause we love America
But that's no reason to get hysterica

"Untouched" - The Veronicas

I go ooh ooh, you go ah ah
lalalalalalalala

lalalalalalalala
I wanna wanna wanna get get get what I want
Don't stop
Give me give me give me what you got got
Cause I can't wait wait wait any more more more more
Don't even talk about the consequence
Cause right now you're the only thing that's making any sense to me
And I don't give a damn what they say, what they think think
Cause you're the only one who's on my mind
I'll never ever let you leave me
I'll try to stop time for ever, never wanna hear you say goodbye (bye bye bye)

I feel so untouched
And I want you so much
That I just can't resist you
It's not enough to say that I miss you
I feel so untouched right now
Need you so much somehow
I can't forget you
I've gone crazy from the moment I met you

There's more...but it's not any better

Emily Chambers would make it pay
Everyone knew she`d turn out that way
She turned her back and she`ll be okay
But she`s not okay at all

Every night with the radio on
Emily fears that the day won`t come
The moon is there to do her harm
She`s not all right at all

Don`t get arrested
Don`t buy a machine gun
You`re on the run
And you`re not on the scene
You`re not so cool
And you`re not a jerk
You may be a villain
But no Patty Hearst
You`re Emily Chambers
And what`s worse
Is a whipping wind
And a box in a hearse
And a trigger in your head
And a pen in your hand
And the pain in the verse
And the flat drying land
And the thin of the air
And a pain that hurts
You`re Emily Chambers in the universe

Girl you're in the kitchen
Cooking me a meal
Something makes me wanna come in there and get a feel
Walk around in your t-shirt
Nothing else on
Strutting pass, switching that ass while I'm on the phone
Cutting up tomatoes, fruits and vegetables and potatoes
Girl, you look so sexy while you're doing the damn thang
I want

Sex in the kitchen over by the stove
Put you on the counter by the buttered rolls
Hands on the table, on your tippy toes
We'll be making love like the restaurant was closed

The car won't start--it's Falling apart
I was late for work and the boss got smart
My pantyline shows--got a run in my hose
My hair went flat--man, I hate that

Just when I thought things couldn't get worse
I realized I forgot my purse
With all this stress--I must confess
This could be worse than PMS

This job ain't worth the pay
Can't wait 'til the end of the day
Honey, I'm on my way
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

Honey, I'm home and I had a hard day
Pour me a cold one and oh, by the way
Rub my feet, gimme something to eat
Fix me up my favorite treat
Honey, I'm back, my head's killing me
I need to relax and watch TV
Get off the phone--give the dog a bone
Hey! Hey! Honey, I'm home

Are you solid
Are you solid as a rock
Have you a strong foundation
Or can your soul be bought
It ain't true that
Everybody's got a price
I sing this song for everyone
Who stands up for their rights
Every brother is a Star
Every sister is a star
Every brother is a star
Every sister is a star
Sister Rosa, Malcom X & Dr. King
Showed us we got power
Showed what changes we could bring
To change society
You have gotta change the law
Their bodies may be gone
But their spirits still live on
Repeat Chorus
Rebel souls
For the dreamers, rebel souls & future days
Be brave & strong
Keep keepin' on
Be conscious in the chaos
The queen of England
There's no greater anarchist
One man's freedom fighter
Is another's terrorist

Some will strut and some will fret
See this an hour on the stage
Others will not but theyll sweat
In their hopelessness and their rage
We're all the same the men of anger
And women of the page

They published your diary
And that's how I got to know you
The key to the room of your own and a mind without end
And heres a young girl
On a kind of a telephone line through time
And the voice at the other end comes like a long lost friend
So I know Im all right
Life will come and life will go
Still I feel its all right
Cause I just got a letter to my soul
And when my whole life is on the tip of my tongue
Empty pages for the no longer young
The apathy of time laughs in my face
You say each life has its place

The hatches were battened
The thunderclouds rolled and the critics stormed
The battle surrounded the white flag of your youth
If you need to know that you weathered the storm
Of cruel mortality
A hundred years later Im sitting here living proof
So you know youre all right
(all right)
Life will come and life will go
(life will come and go)
Still youll feel its all right
(all right)
Someonell get a letter to your soul
(someone gets your soul)
When your whole life is on the tip of your tongue
Empty pages for the no longer young
The apathy of time laughed in your face
Did you hear me say each life has its place

The place where you hold me
Dark in a pocket of truth
The moon had swallowed the sun and the light of the earth
And so it was for you
When the river eclipsed your life
And sent your soul like a message in a bottle to me
And it was my rebirth
So we know were all right
(all right)
Though life will come and life will go
(though life will come and life will go)
Still youll feel its all right
(all right)
Someonell will get a letter to your soul
(someone gets your soul)
Then you know youre all right
(when my whole life is on the tip of my tongue)
Then you feel youre all right
(empty pages for the no longer young)
And your hear dry you eyes
(you said)
And you know its all right
(each life has its place)
And your hear dry your eyes
(you said)
And you know its all right
(each life has its place)
And its all right
(itll be all right)

If we blame it on anything
Let's blame it on the rain

I thought freeform FM radio was the chosen format of hippies, whereas AM radio was reserved for unadventurous Top 40 stuff. It's sad to imagine baby Everclear getting down to The Archies and The Partridge Family and no one having the heart to tell him how pathetic he looked. since it's an Everclear song, I doubt the irony is intentional.

Why do you assume Everclear were hippies? They were little kids during the 1970s. Plus, freeform FM radio didn't really exist after 1972, it all became strictly formatted by programmers after then. Plus, Top 40 was wildly eclectic in the '70s. It was The Partridge Family, but then it was Black Sabbath or Kraftwerk or Donna Summer. It was a lot more unpredictable than it is now.

this is the longest i've ever seen a discussion about bad lyrics last without someone mentioning des'ree, 'Life.' so i'll do the honours:

Ooh, Yeah
Oh yeah
Oh Life
Oh Life

I'm afraid of the dark
Especially when I'm in the park
When there's no one else around
Oh I get the shivers
I don't wanna see a ghost
It's the sight that I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast
Watch the evening news

Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life

I'm a superstitious girl
I'm the worst in the world
Never walk under ladders
I keep a rabbits' tail
I'll take you up on a dare
Anytime, anywhere
Name the place, I'll be there
Bungee jumping, I don't care

Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life

So after all's said and done
I know I'm not the only one
Life indeed can be fun
If you really want to
Sometimes living out your dreams
Ain't as easy as it seems
You wanna fly around the world
In a beautiful balloon

Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Life, oh life
Oh life, oh life
Oh life, oh life..
