JT & the Heartbreakers
Lync
Sexy Death Soda
Pest 5000

TWO-album bands:
NY Dolls
Swell Maps (for all intents & purposes?)

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Operation Ivy only released one album, right? That's who I'm going with.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Obviously, Young Marble Giants

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

The La's.

Bryan (Bryan), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

What about side-projects? If so, I'd nominate Butter 08 (to the disgruntlement of those ILMers who actually have good taste).

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 18:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Pest 5000 had that B-sides/remixes record _Palimpsest_ too, but more significantly for your purposes they also recorded another full studio album that never came out...

Patti Schmidt has an excellent new band whose name begins with Nanobot.

Douglas (Douglas), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow, Lync on Ilx!

Portraits of Past
Moss Icon

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 21:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks, Douglas - I Googled nanobot, and found your Web diary entry where you mention the disc (Nanobot Auxiliary Ballet), and not much else (even using the full name). Just some Montreal-area gigs.

Wonder if it ever came out?

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Mo-Ho-Bish-O-Pi, who, if they were starting their careers around nowadays, would be plastered over the covers of all available music publications and would probably be on CD:UK. As it was, the highlight of their career probably came with being played by Steve Lamacq while I was studying for my GCSEs. Oh, and releasing one of the best albums ever, as well.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 21:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Debris' - "we came, we saw, we kicked some ass!"
Desperate Bicycles - though some singles are way better
Autocreation - This really counts on its own rather than as a locust side project, as tara and kevin put out one(?) single afterward with the same name

sideprojects/interims:
Julie Ruin
L. Voag
Jackofficers
FFWD
Mike & Rich

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:01 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and christ, the MONKS

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

The La's also...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

the MONKS

FUCKIN A.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-three years ago)

John Gavanti?

hstencil, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Flipper (one that matters)
The Misfits (same)
The Germs

dan (dan), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:19 (twenty-three years ago)

The Avengers
United States of America

and

Stone Roses
X Ray Spex
would own this if not for inferior 2nd albums.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and The Strokes

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought about John Gavanti! But I always thought that wasn't really a "band" (more an album without an artist).

And the Strokes shall return (or else I wasted 20 bucks on the fan club membership).

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 22:29 (twenty-three years ago)

but don't the Monks have 3 albums out now...at least, if we're talking about the same Monks...mid 60s american GIs in Europe? covered by the Fall? those Monks?

pauls00, Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:41 (twenty-three years ago)

The closest I can come is Elastica's two albums (which could be condensed to fit onto one CD, really.)

Alexis (Alexis), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

i second Portraits of Past and Jackofficers - Digital Dump is gold!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:50 (twenty-three years ago)

The Grays

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 12 March 2003 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Desert Hearts and Life w/o Buildings

Scarce

j.lu (j.lu), Thursday, 13 March 2003 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Rainy Day.

Burr, Thursday, 13 March 2003 01:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff Buckley -- Grace; may be the obvious choice.

Old & In The Way -- Three live albums, but the band only recorded for a short while in 1973, so lots of the material is duplicated over those releases.

Best from two releases -- Blue Hippos late 80's Twin Cities trio with PUNCH.

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 13 March 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

The God Machine.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Pardon my indecipherable enthusiasm. Actual answer: Belfegore.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Jeff Buckley -- Grace; may be the obvious choice.

Unless you count "Drunk...Sketches For My Sweetheart" as an album.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 13 March 2003 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Sketches wasn't official.

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

By my own criteria, I guess Modern Lovers actually rule this. (I like later J Richman too, tho)

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely Young Marble Giants.

also:
Essential Logic
United States of America
Wendy & Bonnie
Rainy Day

mike a (mike a), Thursday, 13 March 2003 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

...but don't the Monks have 3 albums out now...at least, if we're talking about the same Monks...mid 60s american GIs in Europe? covered by the Fall? those Monks?

Same Monks...I have no idea. If there are more albums, I want.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

By my own criteria, I guess Modern Lovers actually rule this. (I like later J Richman too, tho)

Hmmmm. Not sure if this counts, though. While the original line-up of the Modern Lovers disbanded after this record, didn't Jonathan go onto release multiple albums under the moniker: "Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers"?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, but that's what I mean - there's Modern Lovers, and then the various bands Richman called the Modern Lovers. I like those too, but the "original" album/band is an entity in itself.

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Thursday, 13 March 2003 18:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Bizarros
Home & Garden
Tin Huey
Blind Faith
Dogmatics
Liquid Hippos
