Brent (A Bettik), Thursday, 13 March 2003 05:57 (twenty-three years ago)

so go see them this summer. hopefully they'll go out with a bang. it'll be hard to top that last show at the Black Cat, though. cot damn.

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 13 March 2003 06:20 (twenty-three years ago)

TDP kicks much. Such inventiveness, such style.
Classsssssssssic.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Thursday, 13 March 2003 07:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Indeed. I don't think I have to make my feelings known again, not after all my wailing and mewling when they announced there'd be no more records.

I saw these guys live a couple times but I never listened to any of their albums.

This is fucking great news. New album, please...

Marty Innerlogic, Monday, 13 September 2010 20:04 (fifteen years ago)

man, I hope one day they will find enough space in their schedules to fit an European tour in somewhere

V79, Monday, 13 September 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)

have been on a big Dismemberment Plan kick lately, so this feels well timed. definitely one of my favorite live bands ever.

some dude, Monday, 13 September 2010 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

wait, i have too -- is it because of that pitchfork thread?

seeing them in VA for the emergency and i tour was a highlight of highschool show-going. ton of people broke out glow sticks for "the city". back when having synths in your rock band and dancy beats was kinda crazy man!!

uptown churl, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:40 (fifteen years ago)

you just spoiled it

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:48 (fifteen years ago)

reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wanna see this

banaka socka flame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:49 (fifteen years ago)

the chance of me not listening to d-plan tonight is 0%

banaka socka flame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:50 (fifteen years ago)

saw a dude in wburg with a tat of the...thing on the 'emergency & i' cover on his leg this past weekend. omen!

marilyn VO5 savant (donna rouge), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:54 (fifteen years ago)

that sounds like a horrific tat

banaka socka flame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 02:55 (fifteen years ago)

i stared at it for like five minutes before being like "oh man it's that thing"

otoh it made me want to listen to 'emergency & i' so hey

marilyn VO5 savant (donna rouge), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)

if you're tattoo is gonna be horrific, it can at least function as a public service

banaka socka flame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:01 (fifteen years ago)

dont know much abt this band except i dig 'the city'

you cant see me markers (deej), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:31 (fifteen years ago)

banaka socka flame (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:33 (fifteen years ago)

marilyn VO5 savant (donna rouge), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 03:35 (fifteen years ago)

aw, loved this band so much in my early 20s

horseshoe, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 05:39 (fifteen years ago)

'the city' is such a great song

just sayin, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 07:44 (fifteen years ago)

emergency & i still holds up great and has the best lyrics of any indierock album imo

'back and forth' slays me

ciderpress, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 13:28 (fifteen years ago)

"back and forth" otm

horseshoe, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 14:08 (fifteen years ago)

really important band for me. one of the first indie rock shows I saw was Trusty, Chisel and Dismemberment Plan at the 9:30 club, went to Georgetown and bought "!" the next day and I think "...Is Terrified" came out pretty soon after. I liked both a lot but when "Emergency & I" showed up at the college radio station everyone was like "oh shit." Also living in MD and VA meant I had lots of opportunities to see them live, probably ended up seeing them 4-5 times before they broke up. I was disappointed by "Change" but maybe I'd like it more now, I think it just wasn't as amazing as "Emergency & I."

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 14:11 (fifteen years ago)

yeah Change is a very good album, just suffers by comparison to its predecessor. i wish i kept count of how many times i saw them live, had to be at least 14-15.

some dude, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 14:18 (fifteen years ago)

this band is very good at writing bridges.

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 September 2010 14:24 (fifteen years ago)

This has all got me humming "You Are Invited" for the first time in too long.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 September 2010 14:27 (fifteen years ago)

Damn...has the Black Cat show already sold out?

Charlie Chaliapin (j.lu), Friday, 17 September 2010 16:15 (fifteen years ago)

got tickets for boston. pppppppsyched

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 17 September 2010 16:17 (fifteen years ago)

I'll be at the NYC show

I will always think of you, while (quite) fondly, myself (Evan), Friday, 17 September 2010 16:20 (fifteen years ago)

Got my NYC ticket! I almost vomited in my mouth when I saw these guys open a free concert back in 1999 before really knowing anything of their music - Travis prancing around like a jackass, bassist doing jambandy shuffle in place, drummer wearing goddamn gloves, fans (reportedly ringers from DC) up front doing synchronized dance to "What Do You Want Me To Say?" - left after like 10 minutes. Naturally, I later got into their music and have kicked myself since for not catching the whole set.

da croupier, Friday, 17 September 2010 16:36 (fifteen years ago)

what's the album of theirs to check out if you've never listened to their shit before?

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 17 September 2010 16:46 (fifteen years ago)

haha i was wondering if that was a lyric i didn't recall

horseshoe, Friday, 17 September 2010 17:16 (fifteen years ago)

Got my ticket for the 9:30 Club show, which appears to already have sold out. Yikes. So happy I finally get to see these guys - from various circumstances, I missed two or three opportunities to see them before they broke up.

Vinnie, Friday, 17 September 2010 18:31 (fifteen years ago)

tried to get tix for either D.C. show today and failed, but a friend has an extra ticket he's selling me. excited, but also disappointed because i was hoping to get enough tix to take friends/spouse/sibling that i used to go to Plan shows with all the time.

i hope this coinciding with the E&I reissue doesn't mean they're going to play the whole album in order live. that shit's played out, and they're a band that knows how to write a setlist anyway.

some dude, Friday, 17 September 2010 19:04 (fifteen years ago)

i wondered that too but it is really not their style. travis seems like way too much of a contrarian for that. in fact, he should post on ilm.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 17 September 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

yeah, i really doubt they're going to do that

horseshoe, Friday, 17 September 2010 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

travis should marry me, except iirc he became a neocon post-9/11. i wonder if he still is.

This was true of Travis at 19; though to be fair, most of us at that age are pretty much assholes (I'm no exception). I was never able to get past my college interactions with him to give his music a fair shake.

EZ Snappin are you a W&M alum? Have we had this discussion before?

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 17 September 2010 20:11 (fifteen years ago)

I went there several years after Travis but I remember seeing his pic in one of the old frat brother photo sets in the Psi U basement.

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 17 September 2010 20:12 (fifteen years ago)

No we haven't talked about it - we're you a Psi U? I was before I dropped out of school. Drop me a line at my username (no spaces) at yahoo. Too weird.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 17 September 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)

This band bores me, mostly. And Travis' delivery strikes me as proto-Hold Steady in a way. Lots of words, not saying a whole lot.

disagree (with the second sentence in particular -- I haven't really listened to the hold steady enough to have an opinion on that)
