question re: disco strings

Okay, so a lot of disco was popular before sampling was really common, right? So, then, to get the strings that are on all those disco songs were there actually like disco orchestras!? Did they travel around and hire themselves out to every artist, or what?

no, they'd be local session musicians hired by the studio. music like disco centres around the studio and the producer - it would be the singers that would have to travel, not the musicians.

a 'name' orchestra though, like the Salsoul Orchestra did gigs and so may have travelled a bit. the musicians on the Salsoul tracks (Vince Montana etc, are the same people that played on all the Philly soul hits)
