Wot no Djschingis Khan?

'The Flat Earth' DESTROYS 'Wireless'. 'Wireless' is good, true, (Anyone else catch the blatant "Submarines" sample on that Aphex Twin CD with 'Come to Daddy' etc on it?) but "She Blinded Me" is just unbearable. As is 'Hyperactive', but that one's on the end (whereas 'Science' is the lead track!), and the rest of 'FE' is just bliss. "I can't read/ my own writing"

Geir's charts will be all that remains of the internet in 1000 years time - they will prove fascinating evidence of 21st century musical and cultural tastes in mass society to future civilisations

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 March 2003 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

"The Flat Earth" is too "hi-NRG" for my taste. Too many digital synths. I prefer the old analog sound. Plus stuff like "Hyperactive" is considerably less melodic than his best early stuff too.

As for "Dschingis Khan", they were 1979, but they weren't quite close to my 70s list either. :-)

No 80s album list is complete without Upstairs at Erics.

'Too many digital synths. I prefer the old analog sound'

???? 'Flat Earth' has mainly 'real instruments' on it! Don't mean to get all contentious on this point but 'FE' is just such a neglected classic, needs all the props I can give it! "Screen Kiss" HI-NRG? WTF!? That song, like, makes me DIE

I thought they were all samples. Although they do sound like real instruments.

I prefer Thomas Dolby without "real instruments".

"Upstairs At Eric's" is a great album btw. Very close to entering my Top 50.

geir has gone on record as being against digital synths and against real instruments when it comes to thomas dolby.

Please disregard this imposter's thread. The Real 80s action is HERE!

Its amazing how much frustration you can cause yourself when fighting with a syntax checker and a missing < /FONT > tag

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 14 March 2003 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

You secretly really enjoyed that, Custos.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 14 March 2003 08:54 (twenty-three years ago)

no pixies, smiths, sonic youth or butthole surfers. geir, you disappoint me!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 14 March 2003 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

An 80s list devoid of Fishbone and They Might Be Giants is not an 80s list.

Anyone else prefer this font?

no pixies, smiths, sonic youth or butthole surfers. geir, you disappoint me!

The 80s were a bad decade for guitar bands. Most of the best music of the 80s (particularly the first half) was synth based.
