"your lips, your smile, love it when you look at me baby"

I've really never rated Ashanti until this moment, but this song is just so sexy - they sound like they really want each other, sweaty and ugly-style.

It even has m***dy!

I hate this song a lot. It's really cloying and horrible; every time it comes on the radio, I wish I had the ability to smack sound in the face. Then that wretched J-Lo/LL thing comes on and everything goes red. Next thing I know, I'm waking up confused on top of a pile of corpses with a dripping machete in my hand.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Not a remake of Chapterhouse? Durn. ;-)

Dan, you always wake up that way every morning, and then the nice men from the one project come and steal your identity again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

dang, I thought this was about the Chapterhouse song too. Best song they ever did!

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

i quite like 'Happy' (nice Mary Jane Girls vibe) but find everything else involving Ashanti, Ja-Rule and the Moider Inc mob horrible - you're damn right i hate fun.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i really like 'always on time' and i think i remember enjoying 'mesmerize' on the radio the other day.

that ll/j.lo thing is awful.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:45 (twenty-three years ago)

That Chapterhouse song is classic. Ashanti's song, on the other hand, is as dull as it gets.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 13 March 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

There's big explosions in the video.

Of the Chapterhouse song, that is.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Thursday, 13 March 2003 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Does anyone else think this song sounds a little bit too much like "Tell Me" by Smilez and Southstar (or that song sounds like this one)? I heard them back-to-back the other day and didn't realize till then that one wasn't a remix of the other.

That J.Lo song truly is terrible. I can't stand that high/low thing she does.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:29 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, i thought this was about chapterhouse. great song, by far their best though.

g (graysonlane), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:36 (twenty-three years ago)

This is a thread about Chapterhouse.

Chapterhouse.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

so when are chart rap producers going to start sampling dream-pop?

Mike Taylor (mjt), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll take the LL/JLo thing over Mesmerize cuz there's actually an element of drama (albeit between two seeming morons) in it. Plus a friend once hypothesized "thugging" was synonymous with raping, so Ashanti's love of being thugged is rather awkward to listen to.

Yeah, Mesmerize is evil twaddle.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 13 March 2003 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

does sampling Blondie almost count?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 13 March 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

In one fell swoop Anthony has made me like both the J-LLo ("there's actually an element of drama (albeit between two seeming morons)") and JAshanti Rule ("a friend once hypothesized "thugging" was synonymous with raping, so Ashanti's love of being thugged is rather awkward to listen to") more.

CURSE YOU ANTHONY.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 13 March 2003 23:14 (twenty-three years ago)

thug love = rough sex, basically, right?

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 March 2003 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i am wearing thug pants

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 March 2003 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

well, Dan, it seems my work here is done!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 14 March 2003 00:31 (twenty-three years ago)

the mesmerize video in the us had chapterhouse lying on rafts in a pool filled with models.

keith (keithmcl), Friday, 14 March 2003 01:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually I thought of Experimental Audio Research first and then Chapterhouse.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Friday, 14 March 2003 02:15 (twenty-three years ago)

"one in a million" is better "dream pop" than 90% of anything whch normally bears the tag

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 14 March 2003 02:36 (twenty-three years ago)

One of the weaker tracks of the album, but still quality stuff. "Murder Me" is a way better duet for yr. money.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 14 March 2003 05:22 (twenty-three years ago)

You're mean. *cries* Though that is a good song.
