just bought 'lock down' by more fire crew...mixed by wiley. what is up with wiley? this is the most mental shit i've ever heard?!
dont even know if i like it, but its pretty astonishing. not dark side, not even bare, just all, over the shop. but the mcs drag it down a bit...compared to its crazed-grin bounce and swagger, their flow is a bit sluggish and sedated....listening to 'oi' in H & m, i really wondered how this sort of stuff became pop music and was a hit nationwide. i mean, its just fuckin weird!!! could it ever happen again? will dizzee bring garage back to the charts?

where i might take issue with your technicolour post is that most all uk urban music is dissolving under the garage omni-genre, but it's a point of order, a question of pride. something more than just marking a new trend. no one wants to be called an evolution in hiphop etc. if it doesn't fit anymore then that gets renamed, filed away. 2step, sublo, 4x4 what have you. everything else isn't garage anymore

fair point. actually, the semantic black hole makes for a much more interesting idea than the idea that it's "not garage anymore"

"...as if our assumptions are still hypotheses for them"

sez luke, perhaps fearfully holding a crucifix and a stake

(heh)

ok nw question: went into uptown the other day, and theres a whole wall of tunes under the moniker '8-bar'...like, what the fuck is 8-bar?!!??!!

ambrose (ambrose), Saturday, 15 March 2003 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

8-bar is stuff like pulse x, that's how long it goes on for before it loops. i might be wrong i literally have no idea. i was more surprised at stuff like the alias and jon e cash called 'sublo' or something

by the way champion nihilists: ruff squad's 'ting's in boots'

zemko (bob), Saturday, 15 March 2003 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, that's how 8-bar was described for me by those "in the know" fellows at hyperdub: 8 bars of grun-grun-grun followed by 8-bars of swish-swish-swish, etc. etc. ad infinitum

monomaniacal stupidity: musical mob's "salsa" - these guys can only make ONE TUNE, which is fine, but let's no pretend it's a NEW TUNE when we throw salsa piano, or nose flute, or samples of the 5th dimension over top.
