This is not just the usual antiwar crowd - the rally has been called for by labor and religious leaders, which is extremely unusual here in the U.S. So there are some restrictions on what I can play. Mainly that "it has to be something you could play in church." Take that as you will, but we've been sticking to the Curtis Mayfieldy stuff so far.
Extra points for the usual PC diversity ("world" music is great too) and extra special bonus for anything at all popular with the kids but inoffensive. Supreme bonus for anything patriotic (ie. Marvin Gaye doing The Star-Spangled Banner) that fits in okay.

To clarify the "something you could play in church" rule - I think they just mean no cursing, no screaming. And I was being a bit flip about the diversity angle but it is important...spanish-language stuff would be particularly nice as I'm pretty ignorant. The hardest thing will be finding antiwar stuff by young white people with no cursing or screaming I think.

To clarify the "something you could play in church" rule - I think they just mean no cursing, no screaming. And I was being a bit flip about the diversity angle but it is important...female artists and spanish-language stuff would be particularly helpful. But the hardest thing might be finding acceptable antiwar stuff by anyone under 30! The ground rules eliminate a lot of good stuff.
