Haven't seen the Hot Hot Heat yet, but am quite enjoying the album. How are they live?

as our nearby neighbors to north, hot hot heat have played several shows in seattle. i've seen them twice and enjoyed both shows. i've found some find the vox to be somewhat of a stumbling block. but, putting the voice aside, i believe the hot hot heat managed to travel into the past and returned with the best pop-rocks sound of 1983, and they have incorporated it into their modern style.

i accidentally saw them performing at a record store. (actually ruined my shopping because it was so crowded)

i was expecting more garage rock, but it sounded more indie-almost-emo. meh

The only indie gig I've been to where the band was actually good enough to get the uptight hipster crowd to get up and dance rather than do the standing still as it were.

as i said before thats not necessarily a good thing

(I had a friend in Bellingham who got drunk and start throwing bottles at them during their show, because she wasn't impressed, apparently. The singer stopped the show and threatened to fight her.)

garbage. transparent bandwagon-jumping posers.

They're kinda fun live, but get boring super quick at home.

i'm kinda surprised that Alex likes them.

i've not heard much by them, but i'm not impressed by what i have heard. mainly it's the singer, whose voice is way too whiny (and comes off as snarky). to my ears, it's like a combination of the worst traits of robert smith (whininess), ian mccullough (overly mannered and whiny), and elvis costello (too self-consciously "clever," wordy and, yes, whiny).

that said, if i heard more it's possible that my mind could change (esp. since i like the cure, echo & the bunnymen, and EC so if i could get over their faults i could conceivably get over HHH's). though i dunno if i see the need for a band whose schtick is early-eighties.

Couldn't care less for them. I think even Chart stopped the Hot Hot Heat Are Hotties campaign a few monthes ago.

So is Alex. But, that said, they do have that certain something that captures my otherwise elusive attention.

ahh you hip-little-indie-kids, I'm sort of sick of hearing whinny little fashion plates...HHH's live show was great but the record is so-so I think it's just to poppy...more of a 16 year old girl thing? I just want rock and roll not this 60's through back (hives), fashion,($trokes), or crap like (mooney suzuki.. how did they make it out of the garage)just a band that rocks...like the stooges or the stones... it all seems so fake today. and will hip hop ever fade away, at least for a year or two i think it's had is day in the sun....and NO MO EMO I'm sick of ever band sounding the same around here (lawrence) every one sounds like the get up kids or boys life..I have fallen asleep at an Apple seed cast show, really, the music just goes on and on..the underground is over-crowded..
