Heard this in the gym and I thought it was No Doubt at first because she sounds like Gwen -- anyway the song is pretty catchy. Then I pop on over to AMG and it sez she's CCM?!

six months pass...
Why did this thread get no responses the first time round, and then one random Googler two months later? REVIVE.

Anyway, I'm saying classic, and I'm not quite sure why. It's in my top 20 of the year, anyway. I think I may like this song because it sounds a lot like 2000, you can imagine in on the radio after, I dunno, Mary Mary or something. She's a Christian, you know? And about 8.

"(There's Gotta Be) More To Life" is better I think - the shift from moody verses to anthemic choruses isn't as forced as on "Stuck", which sounds like it can't decide whether it wants to be on Pink's first or second album.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 06:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Very classic. Possibly in my top 20 singles of the year.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree with Tim that (There's Gotta) Be More to Life is better, but Stuck's good, too.

Josh Timmermann (Josh Timmermann), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Definitely classic, and Stuck > (There's Gotta Be) More To Life for the exact reason Tim stated - I like the awkwardness of that contrast, and the way it doesn't resolve itself until the closing seconds when those Max Martin-esque backing vocals come in ("don't know what to do - I'm STUCK on you!") and it gives itself wholly over to POP. More To Life is a bit more slick, and also reminds me that she's a Xtian, so while still good it's not as classic.

moley moley moley

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

fucking piece of shit voice horrid song and a face only a mother could love. fuck this jesus music.. arrrghhh

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I think it's pretty darn good for a...wait for it...CCM POP SINGLE!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i dont know what all this CCM business is, but Stuck is so wonderful and i do love her voice- it's so crystal clear.

lid, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ccm = contemperary christian music

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I had no idea she was CCM! I think she's great, obv. (although DAMN I can no longer point at Amy Grant and say "HAHA CCM THIS IS AS GOOD AS YOU EVER GOT EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE JARS OF CLAY SONG!").

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

also ccm = evanescene, p.o.d.

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I always forget about POD, but I only started liking them on their last album, and really only "Youth Of A Nation". Evanescence doesn't really count, I don't think, unless every band made up of Christians is CCM.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

stacie orrico is probably just a christian who makes music, no?

"Every now and then, When I'm all alone
I be wishing you will call me on the telephone
Say you want me back, But you never do"

doesnt sound like she's singing about god.

lid, Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

stacie orrico has like 5 albums in the gospel section.

Pablo Cruise (chaki), Tuesday, 2 December 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

But also the verses on "More To Life" are more interesting - that dark dubby sound is more appealing to me at the moment than '99-era She'kspere revivalism.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus a great key change!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The key change is terrible!

Melissa W (Melissa W), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 06:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Terribly great!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 10:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't remember the song too well, but "More To Life" has such a horrible video.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh she still has that coco pop stuck to her cheek and no-one has said anything

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

my daughter 3mma
loves this song an awful lot
so I guess me too

Haikunym (Haikunym), Wednesday, 3 December 2003 18:44 (twenty-two years ago)

She reminds me of those singing mice in Babe.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Thursday, 4 December 2003 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I should listen to the whole album one of these days... it gets really terrible right after the one-two punch of Stuck and More To Life, so I always end up listening to those on endless loop.
