(Not a parody, this is an actual Marvel comic where Eminem helps the Punisher fight crime.)

And of course, John Lennon played a fairly important part in the first issue of Grant Morrison's The Invisibles (titled "Dead Beatles").

Oh man, how'd I forget the Invisibles one? Nice. Ward Fowler's features what have to be some of the shittiest Beatles caricatures of the period.

There were some pretty rad rock comics in tge 90s. Wasn't there one that featured, like, World Domination Enterprises or something?

― Οὖτις, Saturday, 13 February 2016 15:23 (ten years ago)
There was a Sinister & Dexter episode where Finnegan suddenly became Nick Cave for 1 panel. Does that count?
Also an ABC Warriors that used the Japanese (?) futuristic city Agharta image for a panel. I think they used the name for the town too.
― Stevolende, Saturday, 13 February 2016 16:38 (ten years ago)
Slightly off-topic, but the thread reminds me of Hard Rock Comics, which put out shoddily band histories.

I only actually had the Jane's Addiction one but I'm sure that the rest of them were a real treat, with artists like RHCP, Nirvana, Motley Crue, etc.

publisher of those was both an early victim of the serial killer who eventually murdered Gianni Versace, and the subject of one of Gary Groth's greatest editorial headlines ever, "Todd Loren: First Amendment Advocate Or Lying Sack Of Shit?"
― glandular lansbury (sic), Monday, 15 February 2016 04:03 (ten years ago)
Whoa, I knew about Rock 'n' Roll Comics comics, but I didn't know that whole story! According to article reprinted here, the idea that Andrew Cunanan killed Todd Loren was never confirmed though, it was just speculated that he did because they both moved in the same San Diego gay circles.
― Tuomas, Monday, 15 February 2016 08:43 (ten years ago)
I recall it being stated more definitively that the two had been involved, but I'm going on a memory of two decades ago.
― glandular lansbury (sic), Monday, 15 February 2016 11:33 (ten years ago)
There's a (not very good) documentary about Loren, don't remember what it says about his death:
http://www.nytimes.com/movies/movie/354001/Unauthorized-and-Proud-of-It-Todd-Loren-s-Rock-n-Roll-Comics/overview
― Chicamaw (Ward Fowler), Monday, 15 February 2016 11:34 (ten years ago)
The article I linked to says Loren's parents speculated his boyfriend of the time (whom the parents never met) was actually Cunanan, but the new police investigation started after Cunanan's spree killings and suicide didn't come up with evidence to prove he killed Loren.
― Tuomas, Monday, 15 February 2016 11:48 (ten years ago)
The article reads as though Sanford is as convinced as he can be that Cunanan was fucking Loren, but he didn't want to go with anything not entirely verifiable in print. Since it's Sanford writing, and at his day job, I'd expect him to dismiss or exclude the speculation entirely if he didn't think it v. plausible.
(Just pretend I put an IMarmchairO after the assertion up there, though.)
― glandular lansbury (sic), Monday, 15 February 2016 12:46 (ten years ago)
Well yeah, but if some later evidence found by the cops confirmed Cunanan killed Loren, this would be mentioned on their Wikipedia pages, which it isn't. So it's quite possible he did it, but since Cunanan killed himself and apparently the cops didn't find sufficient evidence to link him to the case, the truth will probably never known for 100% sure. For all we know it could've been a hate crime against a prominent gay man, they aren't particularly rare (and probably were even more common 25 years ago), sadly.
