err..which one? "ever borneo" or "intonomancy"?

your null fame (yournullfame), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:02 (twenty-three years ago)

intonomancy. Found Ever Borneo kinda dull.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 03:03 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, i agree on that - too much farting around trying to sound like indonesian music. sometimes they really sound like _hippies_.

your null fame (yournullfame), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 06:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok, so I just saw the Suntanama, who are apparently some NNCK offshoot. There were twice as many people onstage as in the audience (discounting the bartender etc)--no matter. They were GREAT. Total Southern boogie rock.

From now on my only critical response to anything is: NEED MORE BOOGIE.

adam (adam), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 07:54 (twenty-three years ago)

oh no no no - suntanama are nothing like nnck - belive me, i interviewed them and they reallly really really hate being compared to them. The record isn't very good

by the way i bought Intonomacy today - it's very good - WAY better than Ever Borneo and stciks and stones - track 3 is particularly killer. glad to see them back in business

i just got intonomancy and am nearing the end of my first listen. it's definitely pretty cool and i'm wondering if someone from diadial isn't involved somehow. weird, terrible keyboard sounds and weird female vocals and so on. kind of kraut-y in a more explicit fashion than before (weird ash ra atmospherics on some tracks, liebezeit type grooves on others).

i really love "sticks and stones," but it's pretty much an anomaly i guess. sort of reminds me of the jim collins _music performed by the high mass_ and terry _rovji_ albums, weird folk from the middle of nowhere (nnck just managed to channel the middle of nowhere into the middle of nyc).

your null fame (yournullfame), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 10:46 (twenty-three years ago)

i agree, it's good. i think that female voice might be that japanese woman again though (the one who plays sax) it doesn't sound like Rita but I could be wrong. Better than Ever Borneo, for sure (and a lot cheaper). Seems lke they're coming back into the 'public eye' (or as public as NNCk get anyway) with abunch of new stuff - they were MIA for a while there...

the review of intonomancy on pitchfork today is quite well-written, if not overly favourable. still worth reading.

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

First half of 'Intonomancy' is great, 2nd half is a like a so-so Sun City Girls alb.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Tuesday, 1 April 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

it made me smile

bob snoom, Wednesday, 2 April 2003 12:29 (twenty-three years ago)

i think the whole thing is pretty good, and way better than a so-so sun city girls album (which, let's face it, is 90% of sun city girls albums). you kind of just have to relax and let the nnck hooks do their work.

two years pass...
New NNCK on 5RC(!) out yesterday. Anyone heard it?

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

check it NNCK "promo" video:

caution: contains "surrealisms"

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

I have the mp3s of Qvaris and i'd say its their best album yet.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

yeah i think the new NNCK is one of their v. best - lots of hot rock gtr action in places, a loooong drifty-drone centerpiece that totally reaches the zone, quite a gd companion to that recent Enos Slaughter cdr which i've been digging all year

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I did hear "The Doon" which I liked quite a bit, so I'm hoping this one's good. The last NNCK thing I purchased was the orthodox Easter comp, not a huge fan of it.

Somebody sent me that link last week but I can't get the video to play for some reason.

I like how it says "Rock" on the album cover.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

email me yr computer's configuration and so i canfigure out why the video isn't playing for some people. i might post alternate formats at some point to make it easier to see.

mortimer, Wednesday, 9 November 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

i had to update realplayer to see it but then it worked

noizem duke (noize duke), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:18 (twenty years ago)

Just saw them in Detroit on Monday night. Me and about 20 other people, just a little more than the number of people on stage. No matter, they were great. Kinda regretting not picking up the new album at the show.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

that video is awesome. wish they would do something different musically, tho it does kind of hit a stride towards the end.

amon (eman), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

I like how as the track gets more "rock" the video gets more "realistic"

sexyDancer (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:36 (twenty years ago)

the new one gets better and better with every listen.track 10 is especially great. the mask the guy has on in the video, i recognize from travelling in peru last summer. it seemed that someone was selling the same masks at every street corner. i never actually put forth the effort to find out what they were all about, though.

ffffnnnnssss, Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:50 (twenty years ago)

Bump. Anyone ever interview NNCK? Observations? Advice?

This will happen via email. Thanks for your help.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:27 (twenty years ago)

whoa, that video is something.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 14 November 2005 01:49 (twenty years ago)

Via email? No problem. They're actually really sweet guys, they totally get a really bad rap. It'll probably be either D@ve or Ke!th who answer, and they're both great. Just don't ask dumb questions (I'm sure you know that already). As far as third wave / freak scene style, they're the godfathers. No doubt about it. So come with due respect and you oughta be fine.
