don't get me started. Heartbreaking. That song is one of my favorites, and even when it was in Rushmore, it didn't bother me (i think it was done well) - but these yuppies in their mitsubishis singing along - like i said, don't get me started. I'm SO very grimmed-out.

I don't even like the song, but when I see that mother singing along to it to her infant in the backseat, I want to eat a bag of sulphuric acid and jab frightened blowfish in my eyes.

Haven't seen the ad but are we talking about The Wiseguys song here? If so it was used on a Bud ad in the UK which made it a hit. I could of course be referring to a totally different song in which case apologies.

The Faces song.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't mind that it's used in a commercial -- but the hairs on my neck stand up when I see the well-timed optimistic gleam in the bouncy buoyant backseat baby's eye. KILLKILLKILLETC.

Who sings on this? Is it Ron Wood?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I believe they use the Rod Stewart version in the Mitsubishi ad.

TMFTML (TMFTML), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

no, it's the Ronnie Lane version. and why are you people watching TV? what you were watching that was worth enduring that hideous ad? I think I accidentally flipped past it on comedy central. I know better now than to move from VH1 Classic.

Fav single, "How Come?' In the pic sleeve with "Done this one before" and "Tell Everyone" b-sides

There's a great bit in the Ronnie Lane documentary (The Passing Show; highly recommended) where one of his musicians talks about playing "How Come?" at soundcheck for their Old Grey Whistle Test appearance. Stevie Wonder was also on the show, and during Lane's soundcheck, Wonder figured out the chords and started playing along.
