Can I be anymore in love with these last two Boredoms records?

They give me hope, for some reason.

It's the humanity, the joy.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 07:25 (twenty-three years ago)

what do they sound like..

JP Albin (John Paul Albin), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 07:56 (twenty-three years ago)

They sound like religion.

Some kind of enthusiastic embrace of what it means to be alive, or some kind of ridiculous hyperbole like that.

I don't know; they're really driving like the best of the whole 'krautrock' thing, a kind of churning, longing for some unattainable thing, state, whatever, but of course never quite able to quite get there. but all the more awe-inspiring for the effort. Embracing of a lot of disparate movements like dub, rock, metal, gospel, etc.

Anyway, nothing like those earlier "noise" records and so much better.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 08:05 (twenty-three years ago)

They've become the 'default' band round my way, ie, when I just want to put on something but don't want to dedicate any thought to choosing the CD, just leave the Boredoms CD in. Great shit.

same here.

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i've loved Super Ae for the past few years (ever since the earth-shaking experience of seeing them live), but i didn't get around to Vision Creation Newsun until recently, and so far, it hasn't really grabbed me. am i missing something about VCN? is there anything else they've done recently that might do the trick?

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

try 'vision recreation' (rebore vol. 0) for eye remixes of vision creation newsun -- i like almost it better than v.c.n.!

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

haha 'i like almost it better' ??!?!

geeta's writing (eye remix)

i need some coffee pronto

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

what i did was listen to VCN first and i was pretty underwhlmed until i got super AE a few months later and holy christx0r it aroused my heart sexually

the one on super AE where it goes 'humma mumma ha humma mumma ha humma mumma' makes me involuntarily clap my hands and snap my neck

someone else said this and i concur, VCN really is thee best krautrock album ever made, and they're not even german!

how's the newish one by the ex member that comes in the lovely packaging?

schnell schnell, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

(Note to myself: accept the inevitable: you are going to start buying Boredoms CDs sooner or later. You liked what you heard on that special they ran on WPRB, and all the praise they get around here, plus the wonderful packaging (including confusing titles) makes them even more attractive.)

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

everyone needs a boredoms record like they need internal organs and wheat

schnell schnell, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually wheat allergies are quite common, but maybe that was your point.

Rockist Scientist, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Trust me, Rockist. In fact, perhaps I can make you some copies in exchange for those tapes? :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I just got the OOIOO LP but I haven't listened to it. What's it like? :D

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

the newer 'Krautrock' boredoms are so much better than the older, harsh/dissonant boredoms. i can't wait to hear what they'll pull out next.

j fail (cenotaph), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe you're talking about the Seiichi Yamamoto record from last year? If so, that one is good, though in a lighter mode than Boredoms. He has a new one on Tzadik soon too.

I'm going to ATPLA this year, for the expressed purpose of seeing Boredoms. It's a pilgrimage, really.

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

OOIOO's Feather Float is pretty good. Little bit less intense, more happy-trippy.

adam (adam), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

OOIOO - they keep getting better... Green and Gold is my favorite! Shock City Shockers Vol. 2 is very good too. I have sung the praises of the OOIOO drummer Yoshiko who also is in DMBQ elsewhere, I'm a believer.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

isn't Green & Gold supposed to come out domestically at some point?

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd take Super AR over VCN for more of the same check out Super Roots 7. Search OOIOO - "Gold and Green", definately. Immense. Does anyone know anything about some Yoshimi's recent stuff. I know there's a new album with Yuki from Cibo Matto.

Nathan Webb (Nathan Webb), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

why is super AE sometimes super AR

schne;; schne;;, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

The Boredoms are one of the few bands on Earth - hell, the only one I can think of really - where hyperbole is an understatement. Yoshimi's just joined a band over here in the US, I think. Wish I could remember their name.

maria b (maria b), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:49 (twenty-three years ago)

they should (have they ever?) release some live stuff. or at least tour the US again.
