"Hoffman Estates", Half-Japanese reissues, Appendix Out

Nathan Webb (Nathan Webb), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:14 (twenty-three years ago)

"The Drag City Hour" as revolting as it is to contemplate, did have a bit of pretty darn good exclusive Royal Trux stuff.

Vokokesh!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

The John Fahey book. The Alan Licht book. The RTX comic. The rock anagrams book!

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:16 (twenty-three years ago)

MOIKAI... MOiKAi mOikAi.?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Circle X? Oh, I guess you mean Dexter's Cigar.

hstencil, Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, including "subsidiary labels" (don't get smart!)

i sold back "the drag city hour" in disappointment, though I taped it first - and enjoy it now fairly regularly in my car. i actually like the palace performances on there.

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I *heart* Moikai

Nathan Webb (Nathan Webb), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

edith frost. second vote for "I hear the devil..." 7"

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

ditto Edith Frost. And early Flying Saucer Attack. Is Neil Hamburger "deep" catalog?

mike a (mike a), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 21:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Flying Saucer Attack's "Further" is a great album. It is a perfect last hour before dawn listen.

earlnash, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Mantis. That "Druler" 7" kinda owns.

First Silver Jews EP.

"Twin (Fucking) Infinitives".

"Corky's Gift To His Father," one of the greatest outsider pop albums ever made (even if it took 20+ years for it to really surface).

That first "new" Red Krayola record.

The first Palace Brothers 7" w/ the "Ohio River Boat Song" is a heartbreaker.

"Making Losers Happy"

I think the only bad Drag City release from the olden days was Burnout.

mosurock (mosurock), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

The Nig-Heist CD discography is kinda annoying because the live CD is one long track. Not broken into shows or songs...

Jon Williams (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I second Mantis, totally. Drag City Hour was godawful though, people.

as far as Drag City offshoot labels, I always liked the Broadcast CChoir 7"s....

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

King Kong's Me Hungry, best concept album ever. Should've been made into a musical on Broadway.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i second 'corky's debt to his father'. it somehow manages to be the most inside and outside mayo thompson stuff ever, at the same time.

early pavement and smog stuff is great - i think DC used to be a bit more consistent than they've been lately, though.

j fail (cenotaph), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

I second Me Hungry, it's easily the best love story about a man (the first man, even), a woman (the first woman, even) and a yak (just a regular, everyday yak).

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I second Me Hungry

Um, you firsted King Kong.

Vic Funk, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 21:15 (twenty-three years ago)

the singles by "The Sundownders" on Sea Note (another Drag City sublabel) are all kinda cool..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 23:19 (twenty-three years ago)

i know it's not on drag city but SEARCH: desert storm's awesome cover of joy division's "warsaw".

gygax! (gygax!), Saturday, 22 March 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the deal with Desert Storm? Their singles are "for sale only in the Chicago area," right?

Sam Jeffries (samjeff), Saturday, 22 March 2003 21:43 (twenty-three years ago)

hunter kennedy, dan koretsky, rian murphy...

?
