Who recorded the definitive version?

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 21:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll take Hall & Oates b/c the bridge works so much better w/ a little funk behind it. Spector needed to tighten it up.

I like Maverick and Icemans version best.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't remember Iceman in that scene. I thought it was Maverick and Goose.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 21:20 (twenty-three years ago)

ah shit, your right.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, it's an honest mistake. But there's a big difference, is all I'm saying.

Mark (MarkR), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the Human League version because I love Phil Oakey's perfect voice. Pretty unexceptional in most other areas.

Fivvy (Fivvy), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

So it lays out like this:

1) Maverick & Goose
2) Human League
3) Hall & Oates
4) The Righteous Brothers

The mystery as to what shall appear as my epitaph is cleared up thanx to Mark's preceding post.

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 01:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I heard the Hall & Oates version first, and always thought it sounded 'cleaner' than the original version.

Joe (Joe), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 02:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Let us not forget the version done by The Firm (anyone remember that one?) Either way, it's dead last on the list.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 02:42 (twenty-three years ago)

The version I like the most is the one by Lee Hazelwood and Nancy Sinatra. Although I love Phil Spector. But it's way more scary then the original.

Tobias Rapp, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 03:09 (twenty-three years ago)

golly, I guess I'll be the lone vote for the Righteous Bros. here

not a lot of love for Phil Spector round here but damm that's a hott trak

isn't this being iconoclastic for the sake of being iconoclastic? get real, you folks who voted for H&O. (and i say this as someone who likes a good bit of H&O!)
