Please no duos ;)

i'm gonna go out on a limb with Siouxie Sioux and Morrissey's 'Interlude' cos i just listened to it for the first time ever properly and i like it momentarily in a silly 'is this one of those lost classic singles of the 90s?' way

Don't Go Breakin' My Heart - Elton John & Kiki Dee

( or Rupaul )

Nik (Nik), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 22:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd love to cite the cover of "Stand By Your Man" by Motorhead & Wendy O. Williams, but it is ABSOLUTELY GODAWFUL, despite the promising pedigree.

Failing that, I'll have to go with Iggy & Debbie Harry's cover of Cole Porter's "Well Did You Evah" from the Red Hot + Blue compilation.

Second place goes to the cover of "We're Gonna Have a Good Time Tonight" by Jimmy Barnes & INXS on the "Lost Boys" soundtrack.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

big ups to Alex's Iggy & Debbie pick (man, I forgot that one!). But I may have to go with R. Kelly & Sparkle's "Be Careful."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 23:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Iggy and Kate Pierson - "Candy"

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 23:44 (twenty-three years ago)

or

Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra - Some Velvet Morning

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 18 March 2003 23:55 (twenty-three years ago)

goddamn most of these songs are SO good. Why aren't there more duets. Or, at the very least, why doesn't Iggy do more duets?

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

rowland s howard and lydia lunch - some velvet morning

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

much of the My Bloody Valentine catalog is my favorite duet. otherwise it's got to be The Pastels "Nothing to Be Done".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I actually have a soft spot in my heart for Bing Crosby and Bowie "Little Drummer Boy", even knowing how much of a prick Bing was.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Kylie and Nick - Where the Wild Roses Grow

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Ella & Louis - "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm". Even though Louis screws up his solo entry.

B.Rad (Brad), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Sonic Youth : I Dreamed I Dream, head to head with Minutemen : Do you want new wave or do you want the truth

if these don't count, like it must be ____ & _____, and not just a band, then the answer is OBVIOUSLY rammellzee & k-rob doing Beat Bop - I can listen to this for hours

Dr. Annabel Lies (Michael Kelly), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 00:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Dave Grohl and Trisha Yearwood- The rainbow connection

girl scout heroin (iamamonkey), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Miles Davis & John Lee Hooker - "Bank Robbery"

rex jr, Wednesday, 19 March 2003 07:31 (twenty-three years ago)

And pretty much all of "The Hot Spot".

rexn jr., Wednesday, 19 March 2003 07:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell - 'You're all I need to get by' (or 'Ain't no mountain high enough'). Music doesn't get more joyful than this.

James Ball (James Ball), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Marvin & Tammi's 'California Soul' is also fab.

Paul R (paul R), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Liesbeth List & Ramses Shaffy-Pastorale(brilliant Dutch duet from'69)

Paul R (paul R), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

two years pass...
I'm reviving this to note that I've listened to Marvin & Tammi's "If This World Were Mine" about 12 times in the last couple of days, and I think it might be my favorite duet ever. As you were!

Billy Pilgrim (Billy Pilgrim), Thursday, 13 October 2005 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Current fav duet --
Stranded in Your Love - Sharon Jones w/ Lee Shields - soooooo good!

TRG (TRG), Thursday, 13 October 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

david bowie/bing crosby - little drummer boy/peace on earth

petesmith (plsmith), Thursday, 13 October 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

"Fairytale of New York"

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 13 October 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

one year passes...
possibly the most disturbing duet with a dead person?

I don't get it -- was the producer afraid to break the news to Anita? I imagine him being like, "Uh...sweetie, Conway isn't doing so well, but he promised to phone in his lines as soon as he gets his voice back." *scurries off*

The end product sounds like a 2-hour ProTools job, but it still scares the bejeesus out of me.

King-a-Ling (King-a-Ling), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 04:15 (nineteen years ago)

man alive, i must've been drunk or similar to have picked 'Interlude' back then.

2 american 4 u (blueski), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 10:48 (nineteen years ago)

I suppose they were a duo much of the time, but since most of their careers started well before they got together I'm gonna say Johnny and June Carter Cash's cover of Dylan's It Ain't Me Babe is my favourite duet of all time (although I still somehow like the drunken duet between Dylan and Janis a whole bunch too).

Dadaismus (Takin' Funk to Heaven in '77) (Dada), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

"Travelling Light" by the Tindersticks is my pick. Stuart Staples duets with the singer from The Raincoats, iirc. Gets me every time!

Neil Stewart (Neil Stewart), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

Never heard that Coyne Krause thing but will look for it.

Travelling Light was a duet with Carla Torgerson (of the Walkabouts?), is there a version with one of the women from the Raincoats? Also love their Lee Hazlewood tribute A Marraige Made in Heaven, I forget who the original woman on 7" was but it was redone in a lesser (I think) fashion w/ Isabella Rosselinni

anyway, my fave:

Glenn Campbell and Bobbie Gentry: Morning Glory

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

No, you're right, I was just getting my female fronted alt-country acts mixed up!

Neil Stewart (Neil Stewart), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

Bowling Green--Neko Case & Carl Newman

Everly Brothers cover from her first record. New Pornographers fans should seek this out, it's historic.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 15:23 (nineteen years ago)

I like some of Tiny Tim's duets with himself, "On the Old Front Porch" f'rinstance, best is "We Love It"!

Dadaismus (Takin' Funk to Heaven in '77) (Dada), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't this a list thread?

Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield - What Have I Done To Deserve This?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 15:34 (nineteen years ago)

No new list threads, reviving old ones is fine.

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 15:38 (nineteen years ago)

fourteen years pass...

I got a few here.
