Thought this would be a natural thread now that a new war seems to be coming up.

I can think of these, are there any more?:
Rolling Stones: Highwire

A new war brings a new Prefab Sprout record!

I think there is some rave tune called Desert Storm, with loads of samples from TV news broadcasts and stuff.

Also, Billy Ray Cyrus recorded a song about the war: "All Gave Some, And Some Gave All".

"wind beneath my wings"

(actually, probably not at all, i just have a very vivid memory of hearing this on the radio right before they announced the start of the war.)

I remember having to sing Tie A Yellow Ribbon, God Bless the USA –and– Wind Beneath My Wings every single day for the whole time, before and after. I don't think any of those songs were written about this war specifically, but they are inseperable in my mind. And all are pretty goldarned terrible songs, too!

God, I wish "Wind of Change" fit in this category so I could mention it.

That would be another thread. A rather scary one actually, including around half of the 1990 Eurovision entries among other stuff... :-)

and everything by The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy; their whole career was based on the first Gulf War.

someone please explain the massive attack / gulf wars connection.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 20 March 2003 01:12 (twenty-three years ago)

back in 1991, when massive attack first charted with "unfinished symphony" someone "sensitive" decided it would be wise to drop the "attack" from their name, lest its utterance on mainstream radio upset a nation at war.

i can't remember is the band were in favour of this, or the war even, at the time.

There was a Steinski track in the vein of "The Lesson"s that was full of George Bush soundbites. I forget what it was called but it was remarkable. Does anyone have this?

scott m (mcd), Thursday, 20 March 2003 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

falling joys - black bandages

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 20 March 2003 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

"Bullet in Your Head" - Rage Against The Machine

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 20 March 2003 03:32 (twenty-three years ago)

fuck a war - geto boys

And then the last verse arrives...

Your lucky that I ain't the president
'Cause I'll push the fuckin' button and get it over with
Fuck all that waitin' and procrastinatin'
And all that goddamn negotiatin'
Flyin' back and fourth overseas
And havin' lunch and brunch with the motherfuckin' enemy
I'll aim one missle at Iraq
And blow that little piece of shit off the map
Yeah, I wouldn't give a fuck (..)
Cause I'm tired of payin' these high ass gas prices
Only the rich benefit, it'll be a cold day in hell before I enlist
To eat shit out a can like a worm
And everyday wear the same damn uniform

'Sweet bird of truth' by The The. Even though it was written a few years before.

(Yes Ok, I know it was really inspired by the bombing of Libya. It still fits.)
