1) em: hi & lo. middlebrow rap consumers get suckered into buying that benzino "whiteboy takin' our music" crap but discerning consumers get his skills and less discerning ones appreciate 'em without knowing it. and the teen girls think he's a clever cutie.

2) pac: academics and 4real heart-on-sleeve martyrs of love. everyone likes pac in general and everyone bites his lines but to have & know the mythology up and down and still be buying the albums after albums after albums of unreleased junk you're chasing a lost dream baby.

3) b.i.g.: new-schoolers that know their roots -- ppl. that know biggie's work generally despise lil' kim's new album at least in half coz she misses everything good about him. love skittery beats and love to ride the beats slightly behind. well off but not idle rich. beat the hustle and are living mid-large.

4) diddy: nobody's a diddy *fan* but ppl appreciate his work just fine. being a diddy fan is like being a fabolous fan -- like by the time you wanna be a fan you wanna be a fan of somebody with some consistancy depth and skillz to their work. maybe whiteboys who don't listen to lyrics, but then they'd get bent all outa shape about his song lifts so not them either. djs who like to turn the party out, maybe.
