Did Le Tigre do for Lesbianism what Tiger Woods did for Golf?

All the lesbians at my school are total electro-punks.
At least it's way cooler than past Lesbian role models...
but my question is: Do you think Le Tigre is cool enough to sway someone's sexuality? Like if you really liked Pansy Division you might want to be gay just because it's cool.

subquestion: does it matter?

I guess if people think bands are cool enough to dress all goth, then why not adjust your sexuality?

Such past role models as what, Joan Jett?

As for the girls who like girls at your school, you probably don't know all of them, and among the ones you do, I'm willing to bet they think Le Tigre made electro-punk, not lesbianism, cool. Finding a cool gay band is validating, but I doubt it would make or break someone's sexuality...

or did Le Tigre do the same thing for electro-pop-punk that Tiger Woods did for Asian Negroes?

Rock - Sexuality

Elvis - middle-class sexual liberation
Bowie - Gay-lib
Hippies - Marxist intellectuals sex lib
Heavy Metal - Wankers out of the closet

...and the beat goes on.

wait, is this question saying that Tiger Woods is so cool that he makes people want to be black?

Dave M. (rotten03), Saturday, 22 March 2003 04:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the Q is saying Tiger Woods is so cool he makes black people want to play golf.

mei (mei), Saturday, 22 March 2003 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, tiger woods is so awesome that he makes people want to play golf even if they may have previously never even thought of playing/watching golf.

Like, when kids listen to NIN they think the music is so good and the band so cool that they will actually put on black make up and dress in bizzare goth fashion. That's a pretty succesful influence for NIN!!!

So, can a band be SO cool that they might even be able to change something that we think of as unchangable? Le Tigre is probably the coolest band ever to mix their music with their sexual politics.

you may think i'm a tool, but this seems to me to be a perfectly valid scenario.

> Do you think Le Tigre is cool enough to sway someone's sexuality?

Cool enough? No. I'm not sure any external force is powerful enough to make someone gay. Certainly not Le Tigre. Sheesh.

But high schoolers (of BOTH sexes) are extremely impressionable. Perhaps the "lesbians" in your school just find support in Le Tigre. I use quotes around the word lesbians because I bet my strap-on that many of them are experimenting with their sexuality and wind up "straight" in a few years. Who knows?

Try "Fast and Frightening" by L7 -- that song makes dyke-dom sound like paradise.

Listening to The Residents makes me forsake my unnecessary, unsightly, and just "uncool" second eye- lesbians have it easy!!!!!!!
