Blue Note's Blue Brazil series is good. I think there's 3 (?) volumes.

Learn to play Bongos on Mr Bongo (despite the stoopid titile/cover).

what sort of sound are you looking for? funk, rock, bossa nova?

i'd second JBR's suggestions.

the samba soul 70 is a little soft. there are a couple of songs that sound like 70s game show themes and i have to skip them immediately. the black rio comp is pretty great. more straight up funk.

i've never actually heard any of these (except for the Tom Zé one and it's amazing) but i think that the Luaka Bop comps would be good? correct me if i'm wrong anyone

if i were you i'd go straight for particular albums, since so many of them are available on cd. check out Jorge Ben's "Africa Brazil", Gilberto Gil's self titled albums from 1969 and 1970 (AMAZING!!), the first three Os Mutantes albums, the first self titled Gal Costa from 69, anything new or old from Tom Zé

start browsing through the http://www.dustygroove.com brazil sections, but be weary of their overly hyped descriptions.

The Luka Bop comps are excellent.
