How comez Kung Fu movies always have that damn "metal" (I mean Anthrax or something here) music on when they're fighting. eh? Like Mortal Kombat (yes....i know, I've seen it) has Fear Factory, it isn't in the least bit Oriental.
WHY?

I've never seen a kung fu movie with metal in it. I think the probelm is you are watching the wrong type of kung fu movie. And no, Big Trouble in Little China also does not count.

Funny, most of the kung fu movies I've seen over the years have WHOCKACHICKA (thank you Messrs. L. Schifrin and D. Coffey)

haha I thought she was talking about that CHING sound that's reused over and over during swordfights.

I thought this thread was gonna be about Dim Mak. =/

Well crap, I'm going to hold myself back from posting about Dim Mak AGAIN. SO!
I've never seen a kung fu movie with metal on the soundtrack. Usually they have these amazing Commodore 64 soundtrack things in the background.
Though the best part of those movies aren't the soundtracks, nor the fighting.
But the overdubbed voices! It seems like there's one guy doing them ALL. And he invariably makes the women, children and badguys sound the same. Very, very highpitched.
Except for the ultimate badguy, who probably has a gruff voice!

Come to think of it, the brilliant Last Ninja game on the Commodore 64 had the best music ala those movies, that I've ever heard.

PS: I'm only posting this to keep myself to vomiting all over that Ace Of Base thread.

Last Ninja music is fantastic. It seemed like it was reacting to the game but it wasn't. Was it Rob Hubbard who did it? Must check that later, I've got it here on my PC.

Do we have any acolytes here who can perhaps guide a young grasshopper in the ancient art of Dimac?

Dim Mak use a drum machine, don't they? Not that that's bad, Bathory used one and it was great, but some of the blast breaks with the weird percussion sound pretty fuckin' silly

Dim Mak don't use a drum machine, at least not on the "Intercepting Fist" album.
If I'm not mistaken, the entire band is essentially Ripping Corpse without Rutan.
Having said that, drum triggers are so common in metal nowadays, that half the drummers sound like drum machines anyways.

It's a shame Dim Mak recently broke up, as I'd love to see where they might take their music.

I didn't dig Intercepting Fist (production was really muddy, I hated the drum sound), but their first album was cool, and featured the greatest lyrics ever. "Dragon whips its tail/Dragon spirit lives" just can't be beat.

Which version did you have of the album, btw?
I have the European edition, which apparently was remastered. It also has a bonus track.
It still doesn't have the greatest production in the world, but the music buns me everytime I pop it in.

Still, Rutan should definitely be kicked out of the producer's guild

All the Kung Fu flicks I grew up were filled with the frantic percussion of gongs, tin drums, huge blasts of brass and stings of cello.
But that was on Commander USA's Kung Fu theatre back in the mid 80s. I haven't seen anything vaguely Kun-Fu-esque in years. ("The Replacement Killers" was all techno...)
