I just discovered http://www.travismorrison.com/ and dled it

And I fucking love it. I used to be depressed that D-Plan was braking up, but if this is what Travis is going to be doing, I don't mind so much. A big departure, but so so so great.

Sorry but I've never heard of Dismemberment Plan. However, '16 types of people' is currently @ 74%, so I'll soon tell you wha I think.

First 20 seconds, I like it.

I thought iyt would be maybe punk or somethibng.

Someone, I guess it must be Travis, has just started sining.

Kinda indie, right?

Momus/Pavement?

Scuse me, I'm ignrant.

This is really really really good.

Yeah!

Thanks for recommending this, its fucking brilliant and I'd never heard of it befoe.

big fan of the Plan. very curious where he's going with this solo stuff. i like this, reminds me of the remix he did of Braid's "A Dozen Roses", but I hope he goes all over the place and doesn't just stick to the synthy stuff.

You can download music from the Dismemberment Plan at their site. They're one of my favorite groups. I like this song a lot, I like the direction, but I hope the album can improve on this.

Ugh. It terrifies me to see Pavement and Momus considered to be similar things. Yuck.

It's an alright song. It sounds like one of the better Dismemberment Plan songs. I was never much of a fan of theirs.

no this is not good no. (ps. i love "change").

never heard of them. up until recently i had always confused them with an industrial super-group of sorts with a similar name. i've recently heard that they're for the current Iraqi war, however, so in all likelihood I'll never listen to them.

momus vs. pavement . . . momus just might win.

In neither this thread, nor the other one about the war, have you given one valid response to any of his points.

May you continue on your righteous path as a true Renegade of Funk.

David Allen, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I could re-iterate any of the well-versed arguments against his "points" given by many people on this bulletin board in other threads.

I could point out how he re-uses arguments endlessly recycled by the pro-war ideologues. He could have cut and pasted his "four points" refuting the anti-war movement from a Rush Limbaugh or Savage Nation website.

But I think I'll just stick to my guns and repeat my earlier point: his band sucks George W. Bush's weight in gluteal matter.

You said before you had never heard his band! Then all of a sudden you said they were an over-rated indie rock band; meaning you looked them up on allmusic, saw they were listed as indie rock, saw they got good reviews, saw their views differed from you, and all of a sudden they're overrated.

David Allen, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 02:49 (twenty-three years ago)

If you're going to leap to conclusions, you might as well mention that I went to Pitchfork, saw that they were given good reviews, instantly made the connection that Pitchfork = pretentiousness (this is not true; they're a little annoying, but they have a lot of good reviews) and used that tidbit of information to further my argument. Nah. I actually went and downloaded a few tracks, and they ARE a rather bland, unimpressive indie rock band, indistinguishable from any one of the countless vaguely emo soundalikes to be found out there. In my humble opinion anyway. The fact that they suck eight metric tons of Iraqi crude oil in ass only compounds the stupidity of Morrison's pathetic little "stand" against the Big Bad Liberal Media. And you still have a stupid email address.

justin s., Wednesday, 26 March 2003 07:55 (twenty-three years ago)

*blorf unexpectedly, spitting rum everywhere*
Emo? WTF? Indistinguishable? I'd _kill_ to a find
another band that's indistinguishable from TDP.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 08:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Dismemberment Plan have been one of my favourite groups over the last year or so; I don't consider them emo AT ALL - see here. I never read Pitchfork so don't really know what they think about them, except that I do know one chap from Pitchfork kissed their ass so much they let him write their press-releases, or something. I just consider(ed) them a really, really good, positive, energetic, eclectic group doing something interesting with rock by chucking all their favourite things into the mix, from hip hop through synth pop and drum n bass and hardcore and post-punk/new wave. Supposedly people have a problem with Travis sounding like Dave Matthews but I've never heard Dave Matthews so that's not a problem.

I really like the new song by Travis; I'm vehemently anti-war but his pro-war outburst doens't bother me; he's meant to be a twat anyway, but replied to my email after they split up last month, so there you go, who knows?

I don't know a terrific amount about the Dismemberment Plan, but I do know that you shouldn't expect political wisdom from pop musicians, although sometimes you get it anyway. Not in Morrison's case - he's wrong and stupid about the war, based on his website. "The Ice of Boston" is the only thing he's done that I've caught up with and it is a great song. What are you gonna do? Me, I'll go and download his solo thing. Might also be pretty great.
