It's similar to the relation between 'What Goes On' and 'What Goes On'

..or between "The Power of Love", "The Power of Love", "The Power of Love" and "The Power of Love". A new thread subject, maybe: what's the mos common name for a song?

i'm sure that's been done.

Sorry, I'm new here...

What Goes On is also on the 3rd VU album. But still, sorry for getting your thread off to a bad start.

Well -- did Lou Reed deliberately or openly take the title from the standard? Did he mean it as an interesting and significant act of quotation?

the pinefox, Monday, 24 March 2003 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Well...He was a Brill Bldg writer so he may have used the title as a resource. Like evoking a gospel or blues standard. And working from there

girl scout heroin (iamamonkey), Monday, 24 March 2003 15:04 (twenty-three years ago)

there's tons of songs named ONE too...

Metallica - One
U2 - One
Jhonny Cash - One
Foo Fighters (spit spit spit) - One

just to name a few.

In fact - you're no musitian if you don't have at least one song named ONE. :lol

He may have been listening to the original (Duke Ellington?) and the title became inspiration for a song.
Because he wrote in a factory setting it could also be the result of a technique he used in songwriting (scavaging old titles as muse)

Deliberate theft=Classic

my sister used to think the song was called "I'm A Guinea To See The Light" when I used to play it on the family stereo back in middle school.
