Scotty, RIP

One for the reggae fans, this: old toaster Scotty has died. He'd been around, off and on, since the end of the '60s with the Chosen Few (Boom Shacka Lacka was their big number), and was a fresh voice in toasting over 30 years ago. All reggae fans will have Draw Your Brakes, on the The Harder They Come soundtrack if nowhere else, but there were other winners too - Salvation Train and Riddle I This are old faves of mine, and he did a fine cover of Prince's Thieves In The Temple a few years back. Never a major figure, but he made quite a few records I liked, so I wanted to mark his passing.

That's too bad. Yeah, all I've ever heard is Draw Your Brakes -- but an amazing track.

maan "Draw Your Brakes" addicted me way back in the days before hip-hop, before I even knew what toasting was or that this was a whole new force in music... RIP Scotty!
