Now that spring's here and summer's on the way, what songs are you ready to hear again? Note: for me, this usually means massive amounts of drinking songs. Added bonus if you can find them in a jukebox.

Scaredy Cat, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 01:04 (twenty-three years ago)

What's the matter? Are you guys retarded or something? Joan Jett is pretty fuckin' Spring.

Scaredy Cat, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

robin (robin), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 02:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm one hundred and eight years old and I love Limp Bisquick.

Scaredy Cat, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

spring's here? we had 40 inches of snow last week and it is snowing again right now.

keith (keithmcl), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 02:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Spring's here for me, so I'm looking forward to drinking forties and listening to "Pints of Guinness Make You Strong" by Against Me and "Shakedown" by The Nation of Ulysses.

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 02:46 (twenty-three years ago)

well, it has progressed now...

DO YOU WANNA TOUCH—YEAH!—DO YOU WANNA TOUCH—YEAH!—DO YOU WANNA TOUCH ME THERE? YEAH? YEAH? YEAH! YEAH!

And, of course, the Mary Tyler Moore theme....

Scaredy Cat, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 03:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pulling out ALL my Orange Country rap-rock. I got my Smashmouth, my Sublime, my Sugar Ray...gotta buy Americana by the Offspring.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

The Joan Jett version of Do You Wanna Touch is totally great, but the Gary Glitter original is better.

Sean (Sean), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

My fascination might be partially due to the fact I met/nung out with her for a full 5 or 6 hour night and she was so totally normal and yet had this aura about her: people were falling all over her and she was like "what's wrong? yeah, I'm Joan Jett. Okay. Ha, okay. Nice meeting you," but she had this fucking THING about here where I WANTED TO FAWN ALL OVER HER and ASK HER FOR AN AUTOGRAPH while at the same time thinking, "Heh, heh, I'm sitting with a washed-up has-been, this is funny..." and when the night was through I added it all up and realized I didn't make any sense. I was thoroughly impressed with her back catalog as much as her amazing personality and she probably just thought I was a dork, but was kind enough to treat me like one of her "friends" since I was with her friends at the time. Fuckin' awesome person, she is. I really hope she's rich because nowadays I really see her as an amazing highpoint in music's history. Can't believe half that shit made it to mainstream singles.

Scaredy Cat, Tuesday, 25 March 2003 03:41 (twenty-three years ago)

BTW, I didn't mean to imply her singles were "shit". Far from it! The songs just seem too damn angry/tough girl for me to believe popular culture was into it. But, the fact that everyone LOVED Joan Jett for a few years is both a credit to her and humanity. JJ for president!!

I was actually doing this the other day - all the albums I listened to last spring:

Beach Boys: Surfer Girl / Shut Down 2
Bathory: Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Electric Wizard: Let Us Prey

Lots of metal like Emperor, Rhapsody etc.

Now that spring's here and summer's on the way, what songs are you ready to hear again?

I played all my "spring" and "summer" songs all winter long to con myself into believing it wasn't so miserable and disgusting outside.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 11:31 (twenty-three years ago)

ZZ Top, 'Just Got Paid' is the only summer drinking song i need right now.

j fail (cenotaph), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Loved your Joan Jett story, Scaredy Cat. I met her once when I was 18. In 1979. Similar situation, I was hanging out with mutual friends. She looked at me and said "Do I know you?" (in a friendly, not "who the fuck are you" sort of way) and, being the goofball kid I was, I replied, "Oh, um, no, but, like, um, I know who you are!" And she just laughed and went on being good-natured and sweet.

She was also the person who informed me and my friends that John Lennon had been shot.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, my Spring song is "Feelin' So Good (S.C.O.O.B.Y. D.O.O.)" by the Archies.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

The entirety of Skylarking by XTC, The Head on the Door by the Cure and....ah, fuck it, Attack of the Grey Lantern by Mansun. Don't ask me why the latter reminds me of spring and warm weather....it just does.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Every spring I pull out my Rubinoos records!

matt riedl (veal), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Mansun? "I'm In A Wide Open Space"? Honor the wimps! Feel me?

Slanderous comments about Mansun from an unapologetic Good Charlotte fan? Bah!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)
