i.e. Rephlex, Planet Mu, Skam.

I ARE BORED.

Warp haven't released a whole lot of good things recently have they? Although there was a spurt about two years ago when they seemed to be releasing a quality record every month: Chris Clark, Double Figure, Prefuse73, Confield, it was mental! It's still my favourite label and I must say I haven't really checked out many of it's competitors. Rephlex I have dismissed as being a bit too cheeky, relying on tacky 80s spoofs and jokey-electro but not much else. Planet-ยต was like that for a bit but it really has improved with great hardcore acts like Venetian Snares and Hellfish alongside people like Hrvatski and Tim Tetlow etc.

Stevem, reviews have been quite bad but I LOVE it. There's a few duds on there (the preachery Booga Suga) but all in all I love the album. Electro, dub, hip hop (hah!),...

New Beans is okay. Not Mind blowing of course. Enjoyable.

I'm going to plump for Skam for the nonce: having BoC's debut real label release (i.e. not Music 70) and the odd Gescom EP must mean something good.

warp hasn't quite found its footing in a world it so completely changed

there was a period there where you couldn't get a ditribution deal unless you sounded like autechre...

Planet Mu releases most of Hellfish and Producer and Venetian Snares stuff and both are sick as fuck so Planet Mu is therefore classic and kicks all sorts of ass on Warp these days (even though I dug the two things that Antipop released on them.) Warp has basically become another Matador Records.

(Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it basically concedes that you are distributing or re-releasing music which were discovered elsewhere and which don't necessarily bear any particular sonic imprint.)

was OTM in 2003 - haven't gone out and bought a Warp release in a few years now but it used to be you could pretty much guarantee what was on there was going to be good. I still don't see the point in Anti Pop Consortium even thoguh I have several of their releases.

Very excited about the new Chris Clark album. Clark is crazy underrated, "Diesel Raven" is one of the best things Warp has ever put out.

Also kind of curious about the Born Ruffians EP Warp US is releasing soon.
