Woohoo, it's up on emusic now! Haven't got around to getting it yet, so I can't comment on the sound quality, bitrate or that sort of thing.
Stump recently got back together for drummer Rob's fiftieth birthday.
Kev Hopper's own report of the fun (with pics!) is here (see entry dated 2007-03-30).

― Oilyrags, Thursday, 23 August 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)
Woah! That is awesome - must get this. Practically their whole output there, I think. At first glance they've only ommitted the Lights!Camel!Action! mix of Charlton Heston and it's b-side "Angst Forecast". It's great they have the track from The First After Epiphany compilation "Big End" because it's a hidden treat.
― everything, Thursday, 23 August 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, it took me blummin ages to get it! It's on a Ron Johnson compilation.
Also, "The Rat"
― Mark G, Thursday, 23 August 2007 16:03 (eighteen years ago)
I don't even know (or remember) that one. The first disc here is the really good one. The second one, not so much but there's great stuff on it all the same: Tupperware Stripper!
― everything, Thursday, 23 August 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)
The second disc is the "Quirk Out" and "Mud on a colon" sets.
― Mark G, Thursday, 23 August 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)
I think "Bone" is my favourite thing they did, but there's a lot here worth having.
― Noodle Vague, Thursday, 23 August 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)
"Bone" is a fabulous number. Probably my favourite too. I was just reading over on the C86 thread about how "these bands lack wit or intelligence" or somesuch nonsense and thinking "What the fuck? Have you even listened to any of this stuff?"
― everything, Thursday, 23 August 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)
I saw the original album on vinyl for 99 cents in Seattle's Sonic Boom (the one in Ballard) a couple of months ago.

I think they've got every record ever released in that store.
― everything, Thursday, 23 August 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, the "general store"? Yeah. This was the littler one, across from Lombardi's. There's few things I'd rather do with a Sunday than browse around Sonic Boom, walk through the market and then have lunch at Lombardi's. Mmm . . .
― If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Thursday, 23 August 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)
Oh yes!! Is any of this stuff been remastered?

I need to get down to the Sonic Boom!

PANCAKEWATCH: On the amazon.co.uk page for the reissue, a Mr Terrill of Shrewsbury says
The tracklisting here is wrong! It hasn't been finalised yet, but it will be a 3-CD set and will include 'Lights! Camels! Action' and 'The Song Remains' and more. It is hoped that the Peel Sessions will form a further release.
Content, me content? A pig in clover!

Hi Mark Nice to hear from you. I've just posted details on my website about all this - but here is the text below if you wish to post it up on your forum Best regards Kev More info on the immanent Stump release -it was originally set for early October but Universal Records have just taken over Sanctuary Records in the middle of all this and the place is in termoil as a result, with many employees being made redundant - so the date may have be delayed to early in the new year. Below is the track listing - (it's 3 CDs, not 2 as some sources say) and you'll notice there are many unreleased tracks that make up the 'Post Pancake' album. I'll keep you all posted. STUMP: THE COMPLETE ANTHOLOGY Disc 1. (Mud on a Colon & Quirk Out) 1 Tupperware Stripper 2. Our Fathers 3. Kitchen table 4. Buffalo 5. Everything in its Place 6. Bit Part Actor 7. Orgasm Way 8. Ice the Levant 9. Grab Hands 10. 55-0-55 11. Big End Disc 2. (A fierce Pancake) 1. Living it Down 2. In the Green 3. Roll the bodies Over 4. Bone 5. Eager Bereaver 6. Choas 7. Alcohol 8. Charlton Heston 9. Heartache 10. Doctor (a Visit to) 11. A Fierce Pancake Disc 3. (Post Pancake) 1. The Queen & the Pope 2. Seven Sisters 3. The Rats 4. Warm in the Knowledge 5. The Song’s Remains 6. Safe Sex 7. The Lipstick Maker 8. Maggie 9. Love is too small a Word 10. Ice the Levant (88’ version) 11. Thelma 12. Angst Forecast 13. Heathers in Shelter
― Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 15:40 (eighteen years ago)
So, funnily enough, no "Lights Camel Action" and no Peel Session, the 7" version of "Chaos" also not there..
However, the hard-to-find "Big End" and lots of unreleased stuff.. All good, as us young folk do say!
xpost probably...
― Mark G, Thursday, 27 September 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)
I'm stoked to the extreme about this now. Too bad it's not till next year though. I wonder if the "post-Pancake" stuff is worth it?
― everything, Thursday, 27 September 2007 20:58 (eighteen years ago)
I hope he really meant "immanent".
― HI DERE, Thursday, 27 September 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)
Had another response (to this thread) to pass on..
Hey Mark "Lights Camel Action" is Charlton Heston. We all hated the 12" Irrestible Force re-mix of the song so it will not be included... are you referring to that when you say "Lights Camel Action"? All The Peel Sessions will be coming out at a later date. Cheers Kev

― anatol_merklich, Friday, 28 September 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)
Actually, that remix wasn't very good. If it has existed on it's own it would be a curiosity at least but put alongside the original it's pretty inferior.
― everything, Friday, 28 September 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)
Agreed. Anyway, I have the 12" here, so I'm sure any completists can be brought to ahem hearing it somehow.
The multifrog Charlton Heston video has apparently been youtubed recently. Having only read of it in two-decade-old NMEs (and thus being very excited five minutes ago), I'm a bit disappointed about the lack of frog extravaganza. On the other hand, Kev is a bit hot, Chris is very hott, Rob has an bodhran*, and Mick as always plays lovable buffoon. (But really he really was a fantastic lyricist, wasnee?)
*) I have no idea whether this is correct.
― anatol_merklich, Saturday, 29 September 2007 00:09 (eighteen years ago)
"Down on the kitchen table, the cat is licking me and giving me its tapeworms."
This is not even a song I think about, or lyrics I've ever actively admired, but it's stuck.
I was just reading over on the C86 thread about how "these bands lack wit or intelligence" or somesuch nonsense and thinking "What the fuck? Have you even listened to any of this stuff?"
everything OTM; tarring c86ers with broad mighty-lemon-drop-brush humph.

― Bimble, Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)
No wonder that they wrote and worked and tried out stuff up till the end is it? No, no it is not.
"The Lipstick Maker" was in some version on Kev's 1st solo album actchuerly.
"The Pool Song" off Stolen Jewels (the kev i mentioned above) is an riot.
― anatol_merklich, Saturday, 29 September 2007 03:03 (eighteen years ago)
youtube updaet: "Tupperware Stripper" on The Tube in 1986 or 1987. Apparently it was inadvisable to sing registered trade marks on this show, so "censorship" is substituted for "Tupperware".
bad pic, weak sound, but the whole thing. better pic + sound, lacks first half minute or so.
They're a bitch to search for though, miles and miles of Fall Out Boy and softcore amputee pr0n...

CD3 is a fine collection, really works as a 'great lost STUMP album'
Kev Hopper's notes say that they were pulling in different directions with those last demos, but they always did (check Quirk Out!)
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 April 2008 10:45 (eighteen years ago)
Duly ordered hurrah!
― anatol_merklich, Thursday, 10 April 2008 11:37 (eighteen years ago)
"..it's here!"
Bastard! How come 101CD have managed to get it in and ship it out again, and Amazon and Play still don't even seem to be sure when they're going to be getting it in?!?
― Stewart Osborne, Thursday, 10 April 2008 11:52 (eighteen years ago)
All three tend to get an initial amount of these sorts of things, (or don't, obv), and when they sell out, don't reorder.
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 April 2008 11:56 (eighteen years ago)
But I've had the sodding thing on order with Play since 27th September last year, when you first mentioned it!
― Stewart Osborne, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:00 (eighteen years ago)
Never used 'play' myself, so I can't say.
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 April 2008 12:02 (eighteen years ago)
Would somebody care to comment on the non-Fierce Pancake tracks? Mark, what does CD3 sound like compared to Pancake?
― Patrick South, Thursday, 10 April 2008 15:46 (eighteen years ago)
I refer you to the comment I made earlier today.
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:01 (eighteen years ago)
Soundwise? um, they don't have tons of reverb, um, they don't sound like demos, um, um, that's it.
― Mark G, Thursday, 10 April 2008 16:02 (eighteen years ago)
Should I cancel amazon order due to noninstockexistence, and if so, where should I order? Am an bit X( due to years of waiting & hoping & cetera...

So I have this thing. Pretty good.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 May 2008 02:56 (eighteen years ago)
Excellent.
Kev Hopper did speak of a follow-on "Peel Sessions" CD, and there are certainly enough sessions to make a decent sized disc with more other unreleased songs.
― Mark G, Friday, 23 May 2008 08:16 (eighteen years ago)
To that I say 'hellz ya.'
― Oilyrags, Friday, 23 May 2008 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

― anatol_merklich, Friday, 23 May 2008 22:23 (eighteen years ago)
The LP never scaled value heights.
The CD was on sale for silly money, but I don't think anyone bought it for £100...

― anatol_merklich, Friday, 23 May 2008 22:33 (eighteen years ago)
Peel anthology would obv be very welcome; offhand I only know of one song that was not released elsewhere: a cover ("cover") of The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction". It is actually mainly the words to said well-known hit placed upon the accompaniment of "Heartbreak" from Pancake. Had not Andrew F placed a ban on ysi shenanigans many years ago, I would have directed you here.
― anatol_merklich, Friday, 23 May 2008 22:55 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, the agony, oh how dare you.
(Andrew G, rather. And he is no longer involved with ILX. But YSIing and the like should still need to be limited at best.)
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 23 May 2008 22:57 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, it's a good job we don't do that kind of thing anymore. What would we be like! (ta)
― Mark G, Friday, 23 May 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)
Andrew G you say? ok then..
F slash G -- one step on my keyboard. N slash F -- knight's leap on my keyboard.

This makes me sad. RIP Mick. To the "onstage charisma and natural charm" of the obituary I'd like to add his accomplished lyrics, which I think manage to marry the formalist and the vernacular in some deeply original and distinctive way I cannot quite describe.
