Say something *NICE* about your Fellow ILM'ers

In order to combat the intense negativity of an earlier thread...
This thread is posted so that members of the ILM Posse can say decent, kind, positive, healthy and nourishing compliments about fellow ILM'ers.
Who are your heroes? Who's advice do you count on? Who on ILM is nice to their mothers and always give generously to worthy charities.

I would like to nominate Siegbran, Ned Raggett, Anthony Miccio...and for sheer entertainment value: Alex in NYC.

Okay. Your turn...

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Tuesday, 25 March 2003 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess is a fucking good writer.

Cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Somebody say something nice about me.

Adam A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Norman, Jim and Marcello are cool cats and BETTER writers than all of you! (Trying to start an ego war. Now fight amongst yourselves on who is the better 'writer') (Whatever the fuck that means!) (Capote is a better writer than all of you!)

Adam A's last name is not Apple.

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Um...You have really nice...uh...shoes, Adam A.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I am not a better writer than most people here, believe me..

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, so thats one vote for jess, one vote for Truman Capote and one (dubious) one for Adam A.
I shall return in a week to see who 'won'

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, Capote and Harper Lee kick everyone's ass. So don't worry.

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:07 (twenty-three years ago)

maura is the best.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Di kicks quiet ass against the mod ego. Quiet ass kicking is the best sometimes.

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I still want to grow up to be just like Ned.

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm almost convinced samson is not doomie. almost.

i love you all which is why i'm so hard on all of you

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Who cares, Jess? Who really cares? : - D

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm flattered by your compliment, Lord Custos, though I don't know what I've done to deserve it. Too many kickass people on ILM to mention. I love this place and it helps me get through these long shifts at work. Now if only I could FORCE you all to appreciate "Young And The Hopeless" and "Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water."

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i also think justyn dillingham is highly under-rated. samson i don't know why you said me, i never post anything of note here.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

i'll be dead in the cold cold ground before i recognize missourri or either of those albums

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I enjoyed your post on Sunday. Guess that's why I emailed you. You made me chuckle. Anybody that makes me chuckle on here gets my vote!

: - D

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess that is the most quality Abe Simpson ref., good on ya

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned Raggett, Alex in NYC and Jess are the only 3 people who are really memorable, I think. I don't think Ned has the ability to be mean, I pretty much always agree with Alex, and even though I disagree a lot, Jess always has a very original opinion.

David Allen, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm flattered by your compliment, Lord Custos, though I don't know what I've done to deserve it
You just seem to say alot of pithy things sometimes, Anthony.
Also occasionally pithy: dave q, mark s, nitsuh/nabisco and Julio.

See! ILM is a Celebration of Liiiiiiffffeee!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Great, now I am going to hear Abe Simpson's voice everytime I read Jess's post. Is it not enough that he lives in Olympia??? I vote John as well!

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess... Lumbago free since 1998.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I can offer plenty of pith. yeth, indeed.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I enjoy reading gygax and hstencil's posts.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

yep, gygax is the Alex-in-NYC that doesn't demand that we honour the fire; and hstencil is the Ned Raggett of the 22nd century.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm going to go for the dark horse here and say Momus. He's like herpes- he's pretty noticeable, then goes into remission, and then when you least expect it...outbreak! But in a nice way. I enjoy Momus, not *like* herpes since I haven't had them before but you get the picture. The unpredictability... and the eyepatch.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I will not touch that pro-Momus post until it has been sterilized, cleaned and disinfected by a trained specialist.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

a virtual space inhabited, at least intermittently, by both Sinkah and Kogan is, intermittently, a lot more than just 'nice'

(okeh, that's the fumble-y fan post outta the way then, well) 's been intermittently funtudinous to learn somethin 'bout the most of you, really

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:29 (twenty-three years ago)

these postorz own me: ned, alex nyc, jess, gygax, custos, nickalicious, j0hn mountaingoat, all daves, super duper jody beth rosen, m. skidmarks, m matos:::::...:: u guyz all make me come back here more often than ile cuz i like to go on the net to forget my real life and talk about music.

guys whose musical suggestions always help me out when i im buying records: seigbran and j0hn d.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim Finney is my favorite current music writer. There are so many good writers here.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I know, Spencer, like Harper Lee, Truman Capote and Norman Mailer. I know exactly what you mean!

Samson, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:31 (twenty-three years ago)

yah tim is great i forgot.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim Finney posts here? Details!!!

Cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm gonna say Chuck E if nobody else is gonna. That I still read Stairway To Hell so often scares the shit out of me.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Cozen, use the search feature and enjoy.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:35 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil is the Ned Raggett of the 22nd century.

Whoa.

hstencil, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

He has come from the future to warn us!

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"Britney Spears will take over the world, and will...eat...your...soul!"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Whoa.
Why do I mentally hear Keanu Reeves (in the Matrix) when I read this?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i like the way Ned makes a point of welcoming any new poster that announces themselves whilst not even bothering to defend 'Loveless' anymore cos he don't need to, and the whole Cult of Ned vibe is funny

i like the cut of Dan perry's jib, but his reputation goes before him round here clearly...and i'm a bit of a yankophile but all the americans are fabulous from what i can tell - sorry i have to round you all up like that

i like how Ronan enthuses about dance/club music as he does, i don't mean to sound patronising but it reminds me of me back in 1996

i like how i already knew Matt 'pisshead' DC before i realised he posted on ILM as well

i like how j0e, the mastermind behind what was the best Bellatrix website out there many moons ago, has now also turned up and continues to have me in stitches frequently

i have no real opinion of the writing skillz of anyone here though really.

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:45 (twenty-three years ago)

oh and i like how jess takes the heat off me for painfully adept Simpsons refs

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

hstencil, what this really means is that you'd better get started now, you've got 16 trillion record reviews to write if you want to secure that legacy.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Why do I mentally hear Keanu Reeves (in the Matrix) when I read this?

'Cuz that's exactly the effect I was going for!

hstencil, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 00:50 (twenty-three years ago)

ILM, you are my friend!

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:03 (twenty-three years ago)

creeeeepy

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:09 (twenty-three years ago)

the whole Cult of Ned vibe is funny

That it is. And hstencil's a fine feller, he is. Thanks to all. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex in NYC is great. His passion for all that is Killing Joke, even the much-maligned 'Brighter than a Thousand Suns', inspires me to new heights of flame-honouring.

justin s., Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Jonathan Williams makes me smile. ^_^

ddb, hstencil, jack cole, msp, shakey mo (alphabetical order): kit bff.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

ILM is like a safe haven commodity in times of war.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 02:14 (twenty-three years ago)

In the year+ I have been hanging around here, I've learned A SHITLOAD. More often than not it's frustrating. Every week there's something that comes up and it's like "jesus I had no IDEA." I end up hating my sheltered kidhood even more. Thanx!!

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Wednesday, 26 March 2003 02:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Ally, you are Highlander

There can be only one.

I am going to marry Anthony because of his devotion to the cause of Fred Durst's visage. I like practically throw up laughing over those pictures.

Also, I'd like to point out that Sean Carruthers is really cute.

I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO PROPS ANYONE FOR THEIR WRITING BECAUSE THAT SUXX AND IS GAY. We should be propping people for their wang or something, not their canon. Wait.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 27 March 2003 04:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh and I'd marry Chaki too.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 27 March 2003 04:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I think you can only marry both chaki AND Sean if you live in Utah.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 27 March 2003 05:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I want more female presence on ILM! I never come here b/c you geeks frighten me/turn me off!

I want you all to recognize that a pedal steel makes any song perfect! I want you to understand the primal urgency that is Eminem! I want you to realize that Tatu are FAKE LESBIANS!! haha.

I am grrrl. hear me roar.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 27 March 2003 06:57 (twenty-three years ago)

If it means anything to you, I agree, except for the word "perfect." Pedal steel does make any song better. Instant perfection is too much to hope for.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 27 March 2003 07:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Robin "the voice of reason" is UK tabloid code for 'addled old reactionary' so you have me bang to rights.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 27 March 2003 09:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Even Junior Senior won't get you out of this one Tom

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 27 March 2003 10:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Its difficult to dislike the ILMers.
Even Callum is far smarter than he appears ;_)

kevin brady (groeuvre), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

remember kevin, there are two of them.
"Callum" is cool.
"calum robert" is a troll.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 27 March 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Michael, the fact that I am your fan and have your wallet makes me sound like a stalker! I'm not, of course, just lazy. Email me again with your new (er, more recent) address and I promise to return it.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Thursday, 27 March 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

callum was the 15 year sigur ros fan, right?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 27 March 2003 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I thought he hated them.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no he wuvd them. he hated house, disco and stupid retro shit

Why can't mainstream critics get over the fact that the new Sigur Ros album is called ( ) and has no song titles?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

ah, OK.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 27 March 2003 15:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, I'd like to point out that Sean Carruthers is really cute.
I'm not sure whether to feel flattered or worried about your sanity, Ally. But thanks!

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 27 March 2003 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

you guys all go on and lez up, i'll stay back here nice and flaccid.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris V is the guy-watching-uninterestedly-in-the-background-of-the-porno SHOCKAH!!!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

just ew

Cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 27 March 2003 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank you Chaki and Nick!

I am keen to read anything about music by Mark S, Frank K, Tom E, Tim F and others, I like Ronan on the dance music he loves, and I'm keen on the people who will talk outside the usual rock/hip-hop ILM territory - for instance Tim H and Dr C on reggae are always tremendously enjoyable.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 27 March 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

when this was said:

to me, good writer is synonymous with "good thinker," and that IS what this board is for.
well thats all subjective, ain't it tho. and its excluding people who don't express themselves well with the written word. there are other forms of communication, you know. like MUSIC for instance. that thing you purport to love.

i was repsonding to a specific quote from Jody Beth Rosen. i think its funny that some of you tried to make out that iwas saying it about ILM. taking things out of context ahoy!

di smith (lucylurex), Thursday, 27 March 2003 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm still in awe of ned who had momus write bobby gillespie fan fiction about him. he's my hero. or one of those guys is my hero at least.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 28 March 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I like the pinefox and his insights on rap music.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 March 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Julio for his work behind the scenes and his difficult stances with Ace of Base. Keep up the good work!

Samson, Friday, 28 March 2003 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll be tweaking my nips and caressing my chesthair the whole time.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 28 March 2003 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

thank you samson.

his insights into the workings of music mags is triffic. and his knowledge of avant-garde jazz is superb!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 March 2003 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

James Blount's back!
Well, we know you like his back, but what do you think of his FRONT?

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Friday, 28 March 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

A quick addition: Norman Phay is one of the gr8est ever!!!

Clarke B., Friday, 28 March 2003 21:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

''geeta deserves more luv.''

yes, she does.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Jesus, I totally forgot to cite Geeta -- my ambassador into ILM/ILE's fourth dimension. Hats off, fists aloft!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 28 March 2003 21:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Even the worst of you (you've been told in no uncertain terms who you are) amuse me greatly.

matt riedl (veal), Saturday, 29 March 2003 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm still in awe of ned who had momus write bobby gillespie fan fiction about him.

Wow, thanks -- but I don't remember this at all! Which is a deep pity, as I want to remember it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 29 March 2003 15:12 (twenty-three years ago)

nine years pass...

This place! Whether it's an old band or a new one that I suddenly find myself digging, one of my favorite things is pulling up an ILM thread and see what ppl are/were talking about

You guys are useful and interesting and so goddamn smart about the music you're passionate about. (On top of all the other adjectives that don't really fit into the kip vibe I'm bumping here, lol)

you all get hugs today.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^this. I knew nothing beyond the singles/videos, and I learned so much, and am now totally digging Madonna records. Every post on that thread made me think, ok, I have to listen to that RIGHT NOW.
